Default D16Z6 Blown rings or cracked ringlands!! D series gurus Please need advice!!!

Ok long story short my wife overheated her Del Sol very badly. The head gasket was blown, valve seats trashed, and head was slightly warped. Several hundred dollars later and several hours the head was back on the car with new valvestem seals, new 5 angle valve job, and a stainless steel head gasket. Since then however the engine has been blowing oil very very badly. About 1 quart every 300 miles!!! The engine has been compression checked. 185-200 across the board. We took the car down to the machinist and had him inspect the head as well as he stuck a scope down cylinders 2 and 3 (the culprit cylinders). Anyways the machinist and I talked about it and have come to the conclusion that perhaps the oil control rings were damaged (broken, weakened ect) or the ringslands have craked when it was overheated. Is this a good diagnosis considering what has happened and the compressions is still good (oil helps sealing those cylinders)? Also when I took the head off there was minimal scoring in the cylinders, but other than that the sleeves looked to be in very good shape for a 65K engine. So I was looking into some ZC pistons and rings. What compression would the ZC pistons give the D16Z6? Also considering everything would it be safe to install new rings without honing the cylinders? Please need some advice D series gurus!!!!

I would surely hone the cylinders when you put in new rings.. Check into the Suzuki Vitara pistons for a stronger piston at a cheap price.. PM fjt here on honda-tech and he can sell them to you..

Only do that if you're going to be boosting that engine, because those cylinders will drop the compression ratio.

Or run b16 rods or deck the block.. I wouldnt lower the compression on a motor no matter if its boosted or na..

nobody knows what that is here (your talking about Brits here man). If I had it, would have done it already.

thanks for the advice. The car is staying naturally aspirated so I would like to look into higher compression pistons like the ZCs. Any idea on where to get them and what compression the end result would be?

Not sure there.. I dont do anything with non-turbo stuff.. Either way I would do a lite hone on the cylinders..
