help! 1995 ls motor not starting up!
i just swapped in this motor and im sure everything is in correctly. i have an aem intake and everything else is stock, except the motor.
when i tried to turn on the car, it would turn over, but not start. here are the symptoms:
1) the intake would blow out air out of nowhere after a couple of tries to turn the engine on.
2) my tranny ground would spark.
3) i seem to be leaking little drops of clutch fluid from the slave
4) and finally, the distributor wire was smoking. (im guessing this is the problem)
if anyone can guide me through this rough time
id be very thankful.

1) makes me think your plug wires are in the wrong firing order.
2) & 4) make me think there's also several other wiring problems.
3) is probably not important for starting the engine. You might need a new slave, but that won't stop the engine from running.

i love you jim blake, haha. youve helped me out several times.
ive checked the spark plug wiring order in the helms. it seems to be right.. it should be:
3 4
1 2
right?
im also guessing that the number one spark plug wire goes into the hole closest to the dizzy? and number four is closest to the power steering?
also, if my dizzy now is smoking, im guessing i need to replace it..

I think you got the firing order correct on the distributor, but AAARRRRGGGHH!!!
Come on, everybody knows #1 is at the timing belt, #4 is at the flywheel...
(sorry, I just had to tease you about that)
But #2 & #4 still worry me...

what kind of wiring problems could it be? hrmm... im wondering.. when i was filling up my tranny fluid, i did it via the little sensor on the tranny. but when i was taking it off, it kind of bent. i dont htink that has anything to do with turning on the car though. any ideas on what wiring problems i should check up and see?

The sparking ground wire could simply be loose. But when wires start smoking it's not usually real simple.

to check if you have spark, pull one plug pop it into the plug wire and lay it across the ground point (motor-chasis) and have someone try to crank it.
Dude if you're smelling fuel and you've got sparks shooting out then please get someone competent to come over and help you out. It's not saying that your not capable but you don't seem to know enough about the basics to be trying this on your own. All above said with no disrespect intended.
