Default prelude gagues conversion

i was just wondering if anyone has ever done a conversion with a '96 model prelude with the gagues that go across the dash, to the '97 model with the gagues that look almost like the integras...i am just wondering this becasue i am contemplating buying a 96 lude and the only thing that is holding me back is the gagues that go across the dash, i just dont like them for some reason...anyway has anyone ever done this and if i were to do this whats the price range it would fall into....thanks

you would have to switch out the WHOLE dash, center consol, maybe relocate shifters/ebrake location, etc etc........way too much work!

just a big PITA.....the dash is one of the things that is most unique about the ludes, why change it......also if you like the 97+ dash so much why dont you just buy a 5th gen??

I have thought about it, go to a juckyard or ask a friend if you can measure the dash.. considering there a many things that are similar im sure its possible, just have to think about the work involved

like they said ... why?

if your going to do something to it get the JDM climate control to match the digital look in the Prelude. the EL cluster with the digital dash and digital climate control .... one of the best dash if you ask me. I wish i had the EL cluster for the preludes

Look at what you will have to go through if you take the dash out

JDM climate control is siiick, nice write up on it too

if u were to just take the dash out tho, its not TOO hard. maybe like 45 min to get it out once u know wut ur doing.

have to take out gauges all the way across, climate control radio, center consol to the e-brake, plastic box around back of steering wheel, light and wiper controls, and steering wheel. then its only 6 bolts. pain in the ***, but its fun u dont gotta drop the steering column tho, just adjust steering wheel to lowest position.

here's my mess....

I've got infinity 6002i 6.5" speakers, and the mounting kit that comes with them lets you mount them perfectly, except you have to cut the back out of the stock mount.

Whitelude...i notice that you have just the woofers instead of the 2- or 3-ways in the door...why didn't you get those instead? IMO it makes everything sound better (I tried with the woofers of my 6002ci set in the doors first, and it sounded a lot better with the 6002is in there.)

i got the full component system and the tweeters are up in the dash where the stock tweeters are mounted.

i was just driving and i actually looked at my dash, and it has the whole enclosure feeling, as in the dash is interconnected to the doors, and so on. so i dont know much about a 5th gen dash, but i dont thing the doors and dash would line up on this conversion

too much work to just change the dash... would rather spend that time to hook up and make the jdm climate control work instead

yah keep the 4g dash, if anything get rid of the clock - move the warning ***** further over - and install a 5" lcd - as per some post i'm too lazy to look up... it looks tight, and it keeps lcds hidden from thieves.
