Default Using oil like crazy!

I recentley had an oil change at Honda, and while I was there they noted an oil leak coming down from the back of the engine. I've travelled about 600 miles and was a quart low on oil! Tell me, is it burning it, or leaking it? They had said it might be a valve cover gasket...if so, could it leak this much? The oil doesn't leak while sitting, so it must be lost while travelling. I also don't smell an oil smell while driving either, what do you all think? I'll need to fix this ASAP, as I drive far, and won't be able to afford all this oil.

Rear main seal ? and you will notice it after driving as the oil is put under pressure.

yea after driving it jack it up, get underneath it with a flashlight and if its leaking you'll see them. also, if you do find the leaks fill it up with oil again and buy STP stop engine leak its just a bottle you pour in with the oil and then let it idle for like 20 min...it rejouvenates seals and gaskets and can make it an easy fix.

a common leak on the back of the motor could be from the O ring behind the oil cooler.

^^ its either the oil cooler, or the gasket on the old oil filter came off and stuck to the cooler making an extra gap which leaks under pressure..... Take off the oil filter and inspect the area...

Bump. I noticed the same thing recently. My engine has always burned ~1 - 1.5 qts every 3k, but one day I checked the oil and it had burned the quart in under two weeks of moderate driving; roughly 700 miles.

Hopefully it's not an expensive fix, i've got a few other items lined up that needs replacement. It definitely has to be in the back, because there is no burning of the oil on the manifold or anything. As far as I know it doesn't leave any oil spots on the ground once parked.

The rear main seal is really expensive isn't it?

I've never heard of an O ring, what exactly is this?

Common oil leaks are:

- Cam Seal
- Valve Cover
- Oil pan
- Main Seal

You can go to just about any automotive supply store and get florecent dye for the engine oil, and then use a black light to see where the leak is coming from.
