my question are if the law for banning custom exhaust had passed?

I got pull over by this police in massachusetts (i have mass plate) the police told me it is illegal to have a custom exhaust and my exhaust is too laud (which I don't think it is, I still have the cat and the resinator on the car) he told me he could write me a ticket since my plate is new he'll let me go, I had the exhaust installed around november.

please help me out. it's a megan racing exhaust not so big looks like

my not be to loud but uve been stereotyped by the cops cuz everyone with a fart cannon is a "punk *** ricer".... simple as that..its all about appearance

 

Your state laws are probably online, check them out. Also it would not hurt to go to your local tuner shop (anything but your standard garage) and ask them.

Most of the motor vehicle related laws are in chapter 90.

It's not illegal to have a modified exhaust, but there are noise ordinances, so if it's too loud, you can get a ticket.

 

In massachusetts, i'm pretty sure that your not supposed to modify your exhaust in any way. But i'm pretty sure that everything is all good if its within the legal decibel limit, which i think is around 95 db's? I'm willing to bet that megan racing exhaust is pretty damn loud, and if its the same as the one in the picture its not really made for your car anyway.

My friend got pulled over in his celica gts not too far from framingham on highway 495 south and the copper said the same exact thing. This cop was looking for something so it was his only excuse to pull him over at 2a.m. He is running a tanabe g medallion so its pretty damn quiet and comes with the 50 state legal tag.. He mentioned that to him and let him go with a warning.

So my advice to you is either get something that is within the legal decibel limit or get a ticket next time he sees you on the road.
