Default ATS Installation....how much will the labor be approx?

Ok, since it will take out the whole tranny to finish the job, what labor rate am I looking at? If it's expensive, what other upgrade parts should I throw in to make the labor a little bit worth its price?

well you have to drop the tranny and crack the case and do the all internal work on the gears...i would estimate around 400.00 for everything

~$400 to pay someone else to do everything.

~$200 to pay someone else to just do the final and pinion install into the case

~free if you do it yourself. Scratch that, it's priceless!

I would do it when your also doing the clutch. I'll be doing all my tranny stuff at once.

Is a upgrade clutch necessary? I am thinking of a lighten flywheel....but if this is the case, I will have to wait longer to save...it's the price of a good coilover. Hmmmm...choices, choices, choices.....such a headache.

Do it like this Sir:

ATS 4.929 FD
GSR 5th Gear
OEM ITR Clutch or *Insert your Favorite Clutch Here*
*Insert your Favorite Flywheel Here*

Then your setup PHAT SKIllz Y0...

Def the time to do the clutch/flywheel if it is that time. We charge $450 if we are doing a clutch and flywheel at the same time. As Ken said, if you have a manual and are mechanically competent, you can probably do it yourself with your tool set - gear puller or press a must.

I am technically-chanllenged. The only thing I can do is tyres/brake/change oils.
I have no friends that have the knowledge of doing any complex mechanical works.
And my car sits in a condominium parking lot...imagine jacking up the car with oil everywhere and my super running toward me and screaming -- not a good scene.
Maybe I shouldn't start with a new ITR but a hybrid and do everything myself first.
But at this point, I have no ways to overcome the fear fooling around my car and using it as a white mouse.

Sad but destined -- Whatever mods I purchase wil cost me a great deal of addtional money for someone else to install them.... BTW, how do you become one of those Acura/Honda trained certified technician? Is there a specific school to attend? I figure if those High School grads can do it, why can't I? I plan to read over the Helms manual the next half year then find a tech school to attend.

Any more info on why the GSR 5th gear? Isn't it a longer gear?

Why is that? Wouldn't the GSR fifth make it so much better for freeway cruising? Almost like stock RPMs.

I don't remember at what rpm the ATS maxes out in 4th gear, but I seem to recall it isn't much above 100mph. Correct me if I'm off-base here. You'd need a strong 5th gear to keep pulling down the straights. The gs-r 5th gear will get you nowhere fast.

I have the ats final and stock itr 1-5... My max mph is now ~138mph instead of 146. Stock speedo and tach are off a little.

Let me reiterate: changing only the final drive to ats 4.9 is the preferred setup. If you change to a longer 5th, your rpm drop will be greater from 4-5 shift. You may fall out of vtec. But even if you don't, the only reason to change would be if you cruise at 85mph+ all the time. Otherwise, I'll pass you on the back straight from 4-5 shift.

So, if this is just for a regular driven car, getting a GSR 5th would be fine. Correct? Doesn't the 98spec tranny have a GSR 5th?

this might be a stupid question but when using the ATS Final Drive with stock 1-5, how high would your revs be when cruising at highway speeds such ah 85mph? Thanks.

I know for the JDM FD it adds about 400-500 RPM. Since the ATS is even shorter... I would imagine that you would be around 5000? Correct me for I am just taking a stab.

I would think 400-600 depending on who's doing the work. It cost Asspenny about 50-60 beers, some snacks and some sleeping space for his....

Here, from Black R:

65mph at 4k rpms indicated (3800rpms actual)

-70mph at 4200 rpms indicated (4k rpms actual)

-80mph at 4800 rpms indicated (4600 rpms actual)

Anyway, I can only cruise rationally lega at 70mph. I rarely cruise at 80mph unless I am on a long trip of Interstate Highways. At 5000rpm, just upgrade your audio system.
