Default newbie question, little trouble with first gear

Hello everybody, new to the forums and wanted to say whats up. I just picked up a 99' LX 4-door a couple weeks ago. Now the car only has 49k on it and it runs like a top. One thing I have noticed recently is that when at a stop with the clutch disengaged it won't go into first gear and I have to engage and disengage again which at a stop light can be quite annoying and time consuming. Other than that the clutch seems fine and I have no trouble with any other gears. Is this a common problem with this gen? I tried a search but found nothing. Thanks for the help. One more thing this can happen whether I hold the clutch down all the way through a light (which I normally don't do) or if I just press it when the light turns green going from neutral to first. My buddies told me it's just typical shitty honda synchros and it's not abnormal as it only happens a few times a week. Thanks.

I have a 93 Ex 5 speed with 332,000 miles on it, it's done it since I owned it with only 36,000 miles on it, best thing to do is to shift into first just before you stop, otherwise your going to have to do the double clutch thing to get it into gear. So although I don't think it's supposed to happen, I don't think it's something that is easily preventable.

My '90 Accord does the same thing. I usually just move the shifter to second, then to first. It seems to work pretty well.

i have a '96 ex that does the same thing. I do the same as blueaccord. I don't think it is anything to worry about. My clutch is fine other than that once in a while. So I don't think you need to look into buying a new clutch. It's just annoying

Thanks for the help guys, thats what I figured. I'll try putting it into second then back to first when that happens and see if it makes any difference. That's a lot easier than hitting the clutch again.

This by far is the smartest thing to do without decreasing the life of your engine.

typically thing that happens to a lot of people, i just throw it in second than back to first, don't have to pull it out of gear and release the clutch then gear it back in first. i hated it to, i took long at the lights and got paranoid frist times it happened, get used to it
