i am thinking of selling my car and getting an S2K. i think the S2K is a sport car to drive, yet elegant and more upscale compared to a 11 second civic hatch.. cause no matter how fast it goes, it's still JUST a civic..

anyways, im thinkin of buyin an s2000 and buying a DVD/Navi system with the flip screen... Alpine, Panasonic, Etc ...

if any of you guys got a DVD/Navi system installed in your S2K, please post up pics and let us know of any special modifications you had to do since the dash of the S2K is a lil bit restricted in terms of room for the screen to come out.. and also put your impressions on your systems... thanks guys!

 

My friend had a flip up DVD player thing in his S2000 and had no issues with it opening or the room it had to open up into (before it was repossesed...lol, long story) but yeah, only thing i've heard is that people were having issues with the screen not being able to open up all the way when you fold it up because of the way the dash is shaped and the location of the radio (this may have been just an AP1 issue...as my friend had a 2004 like we do)...

I've seen someone post some custom navigation setup for the dash that looked outstanding, i think its a kit that someone sells on http://www.s2ki.com but i cant remember what thread it was in...you'll have to search.

 

check out s2ki.com. a few guys on there have the jdm navi system. its very slick and clean IMO...

its expensive...looking at 4k+ to be done right. mike spent about 7k with a sound system as well

7k!!!! I can do it myself to my car but i need to make sure that there is nothing behind that area that i might cut.

theres enough space...7k includes all parts (audio system, screen,navi brain, jdm piece, etc.)

thats not what it says in the quote

 

i have the jdm navi as well which includes the following for sell possibly:
(genuine jdm frame, alpine lcd w/ GPS input, alpine a/v control unit to allow 4 inputs: ps2, dvd, etc) only thing you would need to buy is your own navi brain to connect to the LCD.

I'll need to trade the entire dash, since mine is professionally done with this integrated, so i'll need your oem one. trade only valid in norcal

yea i see it in that site.. but i was wondering if anyone here runs with the regular dash DVD/navi ... like with an alpine or panasonic that fits into the console and dont require any modifications at all..

you can't have a flip screen fill in the din in our cars....

1. the screen would hit the little vents above the headunit and will point downwards....

2. you won't be able to pull the screen out....even if you're in the back gears... 2/4/6/R .. the shifter won't be far enough back in order for the screen to come out and pop up.. or vise versa...

3. if you happen to have the screen open and you're shifting... lets just say you do a hard 2/3 shift your fist would hit your screen hehehehe..

so. you're going to have to do some custom modification to the dash regardless.. i have see people put a single din flip out monitor in the dash. and i've also seen the tv screen like the oem look..

personally im going to op for the laptop with the motech computer system which moniters my no2 flow and will tell me when i am in danger of damaging the welds on my intake manifold. i can watch dvd's on the windows media and upload all my songs on it also. i'll be the coolest cat in town
