Ok, Heres what is wrong:
I was planning on swapping the battery to the trunk, and i was working my way thru it, but then realized i didn't have the right crimp on connectors for the wires. So the project was put on hold. I then proceeded to put the original battery back in, and pick up the project the next day.
I then hop in the car and drive away. Put my headlights on and realize they are really really dim. So i turn around and bring the car back in the garage. (Car is still running) I realize that the ground that attaches to the passenger frame rail isn't connected. So i connect it, and as i do sparks start a little bit (expected that). Get back in car and continue on way.
I am driving down the road and i put my high beams on, as i do this the temperature guage rises linearly with RPM. (not good) I proceed to put my turn signal on and all hell brakes loose with the tach, its going every which way. Drivability isn't really affected, but there is definitely a problem with the electrical system.
Currently a week later, i still get the same symptoms with the high beams, turns and temp guage. Another symptom i am getting is that the fuel level guage when i filled up goes pretty far above F, something it previously never did.
The consensus in the previous thread was that i had a bad ground. I have since checked all the grounds and everything is there, and should be working well. My thought is maybe i blew a relay. Does anyone have any idea what i could have blown?? or what???
Sorry for such a long post, but its the whole story...

I know it sounds lame...but check your grounds. Youll have to check the continuity of the wire...not that its just connected. You could have damaged the wire when suddenly grounding it. Also try cleaning the back of your cluster, and connections. I spent 3 months trying to figure this out, and that was my problem!!!!

you have had a similar problem?? I guess today i will pop off the guage cluster and see if there is anything to be found back there. As for the grounds im pretty sure they are all perfect. I guess we will see.

i know you guys are saying check the grounds, the problem i see with this is that i didnt really change the grounds, i noticed it was off, then replaced it, which leads me to believe that some sort of relay might have blown...
I had the same problem. it was my grounds. I replaced all of them and haven't had a problem since. before I had the problem I never messed with the grounds, but thats what it was. I replaced mine with the same gauge wire I used to relocate my battery. I burned up a gauge cluster because the grounds were bad. once you replace them, you'll notice a big difference.

what grounds did you end up replacing??
So far i have replaced the one that normally goes off the negative terminal, and the one on the valve cover. What else??
Let me know thanks

ive looked for the ground locations in the service manual and they are a lil unclear. Can someone maybe point me in the right direction to what all should be grounded in the bay??
There should be the ground for the battery to the chassis. There should be the one from the valve cover to the chassis. There should also be a ground for the starter as well.
I think the only ones in the engine bay are the
VC to the radiator cross member...
The negative terminal of course off the battery...
Some have a ground near the transmission mount on the right side...close to where your starter wiring would be. I seen a loose gorund there mess up some stuff. Otherwise good luck...
How long and what guage are your wires for the battery re-locate?

for the relocate wire, i used 2 guage Summit battery wire -> Lightning audio distribution block - > 6 gauge Industrial Wire
any1 have pics of the ground by the starter??
