No its not any harder to lay black.
Any idiot can lay paint, some not so good but many hours of wet sanding can fix the worst painters work.
The part about do it yourself jobs is the body work they all **** up on and if you paint over dents why do it?
I can show you my DIY work but its "professional" work since thats what I do.

My next job should be pretty sweet. I might be painting a friend's car in the summer.
However, nothing can compare to the level of care you give to your own car. I had my bro help me do some of the sanding and I went over his parts several times. Good luck to anyone doing DIY, have no fear and you'll be proud of yourself in the long run.
