Default JDM Fog Light Wiring Problem!

Well I searched and got info from Mike M and his wiring diagram, but still doesn't work and getting frustrated. Ok, there's five wires from cruise control harness. From flat side wires 3 and 4 are ground which goes to fuse box/accessory box. Wire 1 and 5 are positive that goes to fuse bose/accessory box and wire 2 goes to relay. I use the relay diagram correctly and still no illumination or fog light coming alive. So what's up!

Post some pics of what you've got done. I did this recently using Mike's diagram. Just follow it closely. It's pretty straight forward, unless you're mixing something up.

Well today, i tested to see if the bulbs were good by wiring the hid to engine bay and tapping to the fog light wire. Driver's side fog bulb is good, but the passenger side is bad. What bulb does the fog light take and is it pretty straight forward (easy) to re-install a new bulb? I'll set up pics real soon for the wiring *still needs help*.

the bulb is a H3 and is pretty common, you can find at any auto parts store.

BTW, when I did mine all i did was hook the two fog light wires from the brown connector on the headlights to the existing connector in the engine bay with blue tape.

on the other end under the dash, connector with blue tape hooked it up to a USDM fog light harness and it was done! that simple.

BTW, I cut the US fog light harness and rewired it to the JDM switch.

Shouldnt be that difficult to install. You can also use an aftermarket foglight harness w/ relay and hook that up to your fog lights as well.

on my USDM front end ( when I had it ) i previously had PIAA foglights ( that burnt out ) on it. When I installed the JDM front end, I just re-used the wiring harness, got myself a new PIAA relay and wired that up to the wire harness to the JDM foglight switch ( that replaces the cruise control switch on the dash ) I figure its not too hard to wire it up if you do it like any other aftermarket foglight install, but from what you posted...I'm not so sure you wired it up correctly ( it sounds like something is missing ). But like Gatecrasher said, if you can post pictures up of what you have already done...it may help us to help you figure this out better

Make sure your ground is good and that your relay is in working condition...I ran to a similar problem too but it was a bad ground...Also, if they're stright up JDM, check that the plugs are in all the way on the fogs thmeselves...One of mine was loose so I just pressed it in harder and it worked...

this may be true if he had the wireharness plug that was supposed to come with the lights. But if he didn't he would have had to use female connectors on each wire ( he didn't mention if he had either or ).

I have everything set (relay, female spde connectors, crimplers) connected the fog light wire that's wrapped in blue tapped one end is connected tapped to relay and other end is to blue wire from the headlight assmebly (fog light wire). I have one side of the relay tapped to accessory, and one wire from jdm switch (cruise contorl harness) tapped into accessory box. I think it might be the ground wires.

did you by chance.....( and maybe this is just me ) have a ground wire running from the relay? My PIAA one is grounded to the chassis and I think somewhere else too. If I can remember correctly...one wire from the wiring harness went to the battery....one went to a 20amp fuse which led to the wires to the foglights ( i think ). Then one wire to the accessory plug ( number 2 I think ). I believe there was another ground but I'll have to check to make sure. The reason why I ask is because you didn't mention anything about the relay being grounded.

Also make sure you have the proper spot in the accessory box tapped...I think we did a different spot from what was told by Mike M...

Ohhh!! Now that might be it. Because I tapped the negative on the first left, the positive from switch next to that and the positive from relay 3rd from left. That might be it!

you tapped it in 3 different places?!?!?!? are you supposed to do that!?!?!?
I only have one plugged into the fuse box ( actually two, but the other one is for the alarm ) and it works just fine. I have no idea whatsoever why you have 3 wires plugged into your fusebox for your foglights. And from reading your post I'm assuming "negative" is your ground? If so....I don't think you're supposed to have that plugged into your fusebox.

I am assuming "mike" got it to work with the way he wired it up.......I would pm him and ask exactly what he did. Maybe that will help you more than asking people who may have never attempted it the way you're trying to go.

Maybe its just me....but I generally don't use a wiring harness that was meant for something else. I mean...a wire is a wire....and in theory it "should" work. But when i take a look at my cruise control set-up ( which has been disconnected ), I don't even want to touch it purely because I don't know or understand all of the wires that go to and from....and all that other jazz. But by doing so, and this is just my opinion on it....you actually run into problems easier than by just wiring it up like the way I suggested. I'm pretty sure though that the JDM wiring harness is completely different than our USDM ones......for which wires goes where and stuff. It may not be too different, but I'm sure there's enough of a difference to where you shouldn't be using a harness within the harness that was meant for something else than what you intend for it to be used for.

Not to mention your connections when installing something SHOULD ALWAYS BE SOULDERED.

psychominset is correct...I don't know why you have 3 different wires plugged into the fusebox...I only have one also..
