Default slick question -- 22x8x13 vs 23x8x13 vs 25x8.7x13

quick question, why would you choose one size over the other?

also, what would you recommend for a turbo gsr civic with the gsr tranny trapping ~118mph?

thanks in advance.

22x8x13 should support up to about 350-400hp

You choose a certain slick size:

1. To match the power you are making and traction you need for that setup.

2. To match the gearing in your transmission to achieve the desired results.

You do not want to go too big or too small either. Too big, the car wont be able to push the big slick as well, and it can lead to breakage with too much bite of the big slick. Too small, your HP output will overpower the slicks and just spin them.

I have customers ask all the time if they can go bigger already since they will be making more power few months later. That's not a good idea in most cases. Lets say you have a 175hp all motor car but plan to go with a bigger motor making 240-250HP. at 175, the best slick size is usually a 22x8x13 (in most cases but gearing can make a diff also). If you already step up to a 24.5x8x.5x13, its going to be too much for the 175hp motor. You'll have a hard time launching with it. can possibly bog at launches and you might have to run a higher tire pressure just to get that big tire moving at top end.

In your case, it looks like its making good power. MAking about ~300-350hp? I'd go with a 24.5x8.5x13.
22" and 23" might be too small and you can overpower that easily.
the 25x8.7 is too big for now. you might need it later when you make 500+hp, but the 24.5x8.5x13 is a pretty broad tire you can use for awhile.

So to sum it up: Use the right slick that is BEST for your setup at the moment.

thats the same size tire you typed. are you asking for:

24.5x8x15 Vs. 24.5x8.5x13?

if so, it would perform differently since the 13" tire has a bigger sidewall than the 15" tire. this is all in a matter of BITE, hooking up with the tire. but since it is the same height, MPH and gearing wise, it would be the same results.

its just a matter of if you need the more sidewall to hook up better.

i think he is asking

if the 24.5X8X15 on a turbo car would act the same as a 24.5X8X15 on an all motor car

a little more info on my setup, i am running a garrett t3/60-1 with a little slower spool-up (full boost at ~4800rpm. with that and the stock gsr tranny, do you still recommend th 24.5x8.5x13 or do you recommend something a little smaller, like the 23x8x13? thanks.

also, how much for just a set of lenso's, no slicks, pm if you cant post, thanks again.

cornhusker,

the 24x8.5x13 would be a better choice in your situation. with a nice sized turbo like that, you need a good bite on the slick and the 24" tall would do the job. the 23" will be doable to a point, but it can easily be overpowered.

Still got some Lenso combos available. PMed you the price.
