Default dCarbon covered spark plugs

Alright, here's the deal. I got my spark plugs replaced about 5,000 miles ago, and the other day i was leaving my gf's house my engine started shaking really bad and trying to die on me when i came to a stop. So i go home and turn it off....when i come back and try to crank it over I can smell gas really bad, and it is running like trash, no power at all.
So today I take the plugs out and have a look, and they're all covered with a black soot. Does this mean my engine is running really rich? My valvetrain has been really noisy lately too, could this condition of the spark plugs be from bent valves? It's currently throwing no CEL's. Any help would be awesome. Thanks.
