Obd1 or Obd2 H22a
I am putting a 96 JDM H22a in my 92 prelude H23a1. Will i need to get a harness converter thing to transfer my wires in the car from Obd1 to an Obd2 ECU? If so any good suggestions as to where to buy one? Or how much?
Also i read the archived article on wiring in the Vtec wires but i didnt understand if i was supposed to put the new clips into the plastic housing? Or do i have to replace other wires?
I looked under the archives to try to find this info but i didnt have much success. So thanks in advance guys.

Thanks man ive read that post too. IT is very helpful with putting the vtec wires into the car. It doesnt really say anything about the year or OBD1 or OBD2.
I guess im just wodering if i can use my existing obd1(non vtec)harness on an obd2 engine?
Which ECU would be the best to use with my 96 JDM H22a?
Thanks for the info

I just put the jdm h22a in my 93' lude which was an h23. I just used my original harness and wired the 2 wires for vtec. The pressure switch and the vtec solenoid have to be wired to there correct pin location on the ECU. I think my solenoid wire was already ran. All i had to do is lengthen then the wire from the solenoid to the passenger side of car. Located around the top of the strut bolts from under the hood., where there was a wire stoped there in a clip. I'em pretty sure youll have to wire the pressure switch and splice it to the correct pin locaton. On top of my head im thinking b6 and a4 but dont take my word for it and look it up. I did this in November of 04. Also if you have a 96' motor, then it would be OBD1 so you need a P13 ecu for the h22 vtec.
Are you sure a 96 JDM is OBD1? I thought it was only 92-95? Someone also said i might need to "add plugs." I'm not excatly sure what they meant but do you know anything about that?
And i was reading through other H-T archives and i saw something about the OBD1 distributor not hooking up to a (OBD2)96 motor? Will i also need a new distributor?
For your h23 to H22 swap did you need to buy a conversion harness?
I just want to make sure i dont waste my $2,000 and have to redo this swap again.
thanks guys

ok so you are doing a 96 (ie obd2) motor into a 92 (ie obd1) car right?
ok you are going to use a obd1 ecu p13 92-95
you are going to use your h23 (original car) harness. put it on the h22.
add vtec pressure and vtec solonoid wires.
I would say use your h23 distributor on the h22 so you dont have to deal with wiring. mount the external coil somewhere (mine is on my tranny).
dont worry about the extra sensors on the obd2 motor. (like the plug down by the crank ignore it).
I believe everything else should be plug and play.
ok I think thats it.

With my distributer i went form a external ignition coil to a internal ignition coil. The h23 is the eternal and the h22 is the internal. Im sure you are going to run in the same problem. What you do is the wire/plug that is suppose to clip in the external ignition coil is going to be left out, and have no where to go on your new motor, becasue the h22 vtec has the internal ignition coil. So you take that left over wire/clip and cut the clip off, splice the wires and twist the Black with Yellow Sripe wire and the Solid Yellow wire together(they should be soldered) Now with That left over Blue wire, just leave it alone, I was told to do nothing with it. Maybe you can ground it, but it didnt bother me so why touch it. If you dont do this you wont have spark or fuel.
Another problem i had was the fuel line. Because the Jdm Cars are right hand drive the fuel filter is on the passenger side of the car, in Japna being the opposite of us so you will have to extend the fuel line, or go the easier way and just switch fuel rails like i did.

thanks!
That's exactly what i need. So I guess if I get a 96 ECU then I should just sell it and look for a 92-95 P13.
And ive looked at chaning the distributor and stuff-- DO i have to take off the valve cover and replace the whole assembly that ties into the cam? Or is it different on the H22? I know on my h23 the distributor had a slot for the end of the cam to fit into. I think it is to tell the plugs when to fire. That sounds like a stupid question but i dont want to mess anything up.
Thanks again

no you dont need to change an assembly. just the dizzy. that slit you see is actually on the cam shaft. make sure you put the slit in the right way. its offset to one side. it wont bolt on well/straight if you have the slot 180ed.
are you planning on using the h23 distributor or the h22?
are you planning on using the h23 distributor or the h22?
yes i plan on using the h23 distributor on the h22 engine. I thought that was what
is recommended.
I read (on H-T) where someone just mounted their distributor on the
transmission. Is this Safe or possible?
Also does what Chris said make sense to you? About clipping wires and having to
rewire things? I thought switching distributors was just swapping mine over.
thanks guys!
