Picked up a daily driver 91 si a couple months ago and it seems to make sorta a winding out sound after about 3k but it stops at about 4k. When i changed the tranny fluid it was the blackest thickest gear oil and i changed that out for honda MTF. The tranny dosent grind or anything like that and shifts smoothly. Car has 109,000 miles on it. If its sitting idle it sorta has that winding sound so quietly but as soon as i push in on the clutch it stops. Sometimes it seems to sound winding out more than other times. Whats my problem here?

 

Could be either the input shaft bearings or the throwout bearing.

thats what it sounds like to me...

 

i think its the inout shaft bearing, because it only happens when the clutch is out. the throwout bearing isnt spinning when the clutch is out

i have the same problem in my dx tranny

is there any negative short or long term affects to driving with a messed up throwout bearing? how immediate do I need to replace it?
