Default SRI vs. CAI

I am thinking about getting air intake system on my gen 4 lude. In comparing SRI and CAI, main advantage of having CAI is the fact that it's drawing colder air from side fender.

If you have two choices of intake, which one of these two would you choose?

1. Ebay CAI with K&N filter for $80

2. Apexi power intake for $90

I vote #1 because its a CAI and not Short Ram. Ive had both, I have an AEM cold air on my lude and a Injen Short Ram on my Lancer, and I love the sound of the Short Ram, but i think that there is a little better performance in the CAI.

CAI also looks better under the hood anyways because you dont see the filter, looks great

I'd go with the A'pexi

K&N's only last so long, and need that lube stuff, and don't filter as well as Apexis

Check out this comparison - http://mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/2/

I guess you could get the best of both worlds and put that on the end of an ebay pipe, but it also fits on the factory pipe

Plus no risk of hydrolock

From my experience with K&N filter, it tends to foul MAF sensor if oild too much. I'd probably go with Apexi with heat shield...

honestly ive had both

Apexi Cold air intake (adding the apexi elbow and filter to an ebay SRI

and just the stock prelude intake arm wiht the apexi filter

I feel the apexi has more gains without the extention UNLESS its very hot out side and the sri loses alittle power

Beside eBay, who carries Apexi for below $90?

Why? K&N's are supposed to be replaced like every 30,000 miles or so, Apexis are guaranteed for the life of the car

And K&N's are wet style, which means they must be cleand and do use a sort of filter lubrication crap, whereas Apexi filter is dry-type

I actually read some comparison of CAI vs short ram a while back that showed surprisingly enough in many instances you will get more power under the curve benefit from a short ram than a CAI...i remember the Weapon R short ram was the best performing one...i think it was on h-t if anybody knows where it is lemme know

Replaced every 30,000? K&N filters are guaranteed for life (million miles) and are to be CLEANED every 30,000 (once a year or when the filter looks like it has a substantial amount of dirt on it)
