4th gen lude vs 5th gen lude
Personally the 5th gen is better looking than the 4th. But you gotta love that dash on the 4th gen. As far as handling the 5th takes the cake. But 4th Gen VTEC vs 5th gen VTEC the 4th will win do to it being lighter and better gearing.
This should be locked, because people are going to make comments like
-4th gen is the fastest
-4th gen is best looking
-5th gen has a stiffer chassis
-5th gen handles better (never understood that one)
-5th gen is best looking
-5th gen is to just a fast as a 4th gen VTEC
Goes on and on..

ooooooooohhhhhhhh, that one burns me up... I specifically bought a 4th gen for performance, didn't even look at a 5th gen, because it doesn't compare =~P And No, money wasn't a factor...

I'm probably one of the few people that have owned both. I had a 1993 Prelude VTEC for 3.5 years, and now I have a 2000 Prelude 5spd. Things that I've noticed:
-The 4th gen has a far superior power steering system. It is a true speed-sensitive power assist as opposed to the 5th gen's RPM-based assist. The 4th gen steering weight feels better and it also feels more natural.
-The 4th gen has higher quality interior materials. The 5th gen seems to have been de-contented to save money. The low quality of the 5th gen's dash materials reflects this.
-The 4th gen has the most supportive, well-bolstered seats I have ever sat in. The 5th gen seats are very lacking in side bolstering IMO.
-The 5th gen has a better ABS system. I'd much rather try to stop in my 5th gen in the snow than in my 4th gen.
-Everybody believes Hondas marketing dept when they make claims about improved chassis rigidity. I never noticed any difference between the two in stock handling. My 4th gen had slightly more body roll than my 5th gen. But that does not mean it does not handle as well. I found that my 4th gen was more eager to put its tail out in a turn. The 4th gen seemed more neutral to me. My 5th gen felt like it tended to understeer more stock.
-I always liked the 4th gen styling better, but the 5th gen has definitely grown on me.
-The 5th gen has more usable cargo space. The exterior design allows the trunk to be shaped for much more usable capacity.
-The 5th gen has fold down rear seats to expand the trunk. The 4th gen did not (-unless you count that useless tiny pass-through hole designed for skis on the 4th gen.)
-The 5th gen can actually accomodate 2 adults in the back seat for short trips. Don't try that in a 4th gen...
-The 5th gen has a better stock stereo. My 4th gen VTEC had that premium 7 speaker sound system with the subwoofer in the back seat. But I think the 5th gen's 6 speaker system sounds better.
-I prefer the 5th gen's Moonroof to the 4th gen's Sunroof
-The 4th gen's climate control system was better. The front defoggers worked much better too.
-The 4th gen's Cruise control was better IMO. I've gotten used to the 5th gen's quirky Cruise settings, but the 4th gen had a better system. It allowed much more accuracy for selecting your cruise speed and adjusting it.
-The 4th gen seemed more eager to rev to me. Maybe it had a lighter flywheel... Or maybe that was just in my head.
-The 4th gen just felt quicker. The combination of the tighter steering feel and better overal gearing contributed to this IMO. My 4th gen felt like a sportier car.

Screw this argument, we own Prelude's, now thats kick ***. Honestly, how many cars in our price range have the look, feel, and power of a Honda Prelude? Not to many. I dont really like to many cars, I think most are ugly, or dull, but have like all the Prelude's ever since my good friend bought an 89 Prelude. I had a 95 Eclipse, and it has a differant appeal to it than the Prelude, but I ended up selling it for my 5th gen 1997 Prelude Base. Preludes kick ***, doesnt matter which year.
i'm gonna abstain from commenting on which generation i like better. this is such a gay thread. just drive both and pick the one you like better!!!! is it that hard???
i've had the rare pleasure of owning both. i had a 95 lude and it got stolen. i bought a 97 lude with the money i got back from the insurance company.
i love my new lude, i truly do. but i often find myself wishing i still had my 4th gen lude. i personally think that the 4th gen looks better, but i like the power of the 5th gen lude that i have now. it seems to me more fun to drive. but i really do miss that dash from the 4th gen. and the comments made earlier about the back seat in the 5th gen are very true. there is more space back there, and two average sized adults may fit back there almost comfortably. i also like the fact that i can fold down the back seat for extra space. but damn, the 4th gen had nice curves...and i mean curves! my new lude looks and feels so boxy....but i love it just the same. if u can own one, either one, buy it. either one...doesn't matter...they are both great cars!!!

3rd gens are pimp, no matter what anyone else says, not to many cars are as nice as the 3rd gens. How many years ago did they come out? Over a decade, and they are still to this day some of the slickest cars on the road, gotta love'em.

I havent posted in a long time. Anyway, the 4th GEN VTEC is definitaly the best IMO. The 5th GEN is ok to. I like the looks of all 4th GENs better though. But yeha, the 4th GEN VTEC is the king of the prelude!
