I did a search, couldn't find any threads pertaining to the actual removal of the climate control on a 96-98. I'm just looking for a general procedure, i.e. does the entire bezel around the radio/climate have to come off first, or can the climate just come out on its own?

 

you can get the dash part off by un cliping the wire from behind it. I know that for sure.

you have to takw off the whole bezel to get off the climate control. at least that what i did. Its only a few phillips screws and unpluging a couple of wires. its really easy

 

You have to remove the center console (shifter/cupholders part) to gain access the screws underneith the climate control...I think there's like two or three of them...then the whole trim/controls comes out.

yes just pull the whole bezel out. Just do a search on google on installing radio 96-98 civic. Once you get the bezel out its really easy. just dont force anything and dont forget about the 4 bolts holding the bezel in you have to get from underneath. You will have to take out the front part of your center console and drop down your glovebox and the plastic on the left side under the stearing wheel to make it alot easier. 1: Pop out the hazard light button and rear defrost button, remove plugs

2: Take out center console (front part) this makes it easier to remove the panel below the center bezel...

3: Drop the glove box down by pushing in on the sides.

4: Pop off the panel under the stearing wheel, there are a few screws....look around and dont force it too much...I think there is about 3 screws.

5: Pop off panel where cig lighter is. About 3 screws on each side.

6: Screws behind the hazard light and rear defrost, 4 screws from underneath.

7: Unhook all plugs u can feel...they are easy to put back dont worry they are color matching...

8: There is a wire for your warm to cold control on the climate thing. You can pull on it and unhook it...pretty easy just look around and take your time..

9: Pull on the center bezel, try to pull evenly or you'll break those clips.

Biggest thing I cannot stress is dont force it and take your time...

I've already removed the radio before, and I know you don't need to remove the entire bezel to do so.

Harnesses & removing the rest of the trim is no problem...

What I'm collecting is:

remove defrost, hazards, remove 2 screws...
I've removed the radio before, so I will remove the radio once more

So I want to clear up, what is holding the bezel onto the dash other than the two screws behind the defrost & hazard switches? Are they screws accessible only from the bottom or just clips?

If memory serves me, there are 4 screws. The 2 behind the buttons up top and 2 on the bottom, which you have to remove the bottom trim piece off. Then disconnect the plugs and then there's are few clips that should just pop when you pull (don't be affraid to pull with some force). I should just do a write up on this.

 

You dont have to remove the whole bezel i guess but the radio is held in by screws on the side if my memory serves me. And the climate control is mounted to the back of the bezel....so um...good luck? Just remove the bezel. Besides those 2 screws their are 4 u gotta get from underneath.
