Temp. knob broken on 90 Teg climate control
Hello,
Recently, the temperature **** has been getting harder to turn on my 90 Integra. Finally yesterday, when I was turning the temperature down it seemed to snap/come loose. Now when I turn the dial, it turns very easily, but the temperature is stuck on full-hot and can't be changed.
Obviously the ****/dial has come disconnected from whatever cables it connects to. I have already removed the instrument bezel, and I'd like to remove the climate control to fix the problem.
The Helm's manual states to remove the radio and console, and then remove the entire climate control/fan speed/temp control as a unit. Is there any easier way to do this?
Also, can anybody tell me exactly how the temp dial works, what cables it connects to? The Helm's is a little confusing when it comes to how it all fits together, so I'm not sure even what to fix when I have it apart.
Thanks for your help,
-Dustin

Well, I can't help with the removal of the dash components, but the temp dial connects via a cable to a valve on one of the heater hoses going into the heater core. You'll be able to spot it if you take your intake tubing off, it's below there near the firewall where the heater hoses go in. Basically just controls the flow of coolant through the heater core. My friend's CRX had that same problem last winter, except the valve was stuck closed so he had no heat. For a temp fix, we just zip-tied the valve all the way open so he had full hot heat all winter.

you are going to have to go under the dash and find the other end of the cable where it connects to the a/c condensor box and use a pair of pliers and move the cable end by hand. it'll porobably be pretty hard to do. i had this problem with my civic. the plastic gear that is in the climate control itself sheared off. i eventually found another one and replaced it cables and all. i had to tear my climate control out and clean all of the crap out of it and grease the hinges. it was all gunked up around the flapper door in the box that is moved when you adjust the temp control. that is what gets sticky and hard to turn. works fine now. nice and smooth. i pulled an amazing amount of stuff out of the a/c coil. i get so much air out of the vents now its amazing. i also put screens on the aitr intake parts going into the fan to keep stuff from getting sucked in again. not much fun but its the only fix.
Yes, I ripped it all apart today, and on mine it was the slider that connects to the plastic gear.
I checked both the heater valve, and the "flapper door" under the dash that the other cable connects to. Both were surprisingly easy to move, and opened and closed without much effort.

Would you like to explain this a little more, I would like to do the same thing since I have everything ripped apart.
