Paint code for 90 - 91 CRX Si rims?
Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you know whether or not there is a paint code for the silver paint on the 90 - 91 CRX Si Rims? I'm planning on restoring a set of them.
i think (may be wrong) that is the color of the alloy. but then again they do paint the little center cap.... i don't know but would like to as i have a set that could use a spray.
I don't think that Honda lists a color code for the hub caps. (I wish they did)
You can go to a automotive paint supply shop and they can custom mix a paint to match anything you bring in.
I re-painted the caps that I had on my first 89 Si hatchback and pretty much had to do this.
If you are REAL picky about the color and "luster", plan on playing with white pigment and "flattening" agent to fine tune the finished product. Plan on spraying a bunch of test items.
Adding white pigment to the sliver metalic with soften the "metalic" aspect of the paint. Adding flattening agent will take out some of the gloss.
Just don't get too crazy cause there will never be a time when somebody holds up a brand new cap up against yours to see if the color is exact (I'm assuming that you are re-painting all four).
If you are talking about the rims, then just pick up a "matt" black and go at it.

I'm doing this for my own satisfaction. I don't care if other people notice or not. I have 8 different CRX Si rims...and they are all slightly different shades of silver. I'm guessing due to repaints or fading over time. I guess I may have to make an educated guess as to which one is closest to original and get the colour matched at a paint shop.
I guess the other option is to order in a brand new center cap from honda...then take it over to the paint store and put it under the "colour eye" and figure out exactly what the colour mixture is.

Try talking to your Honda dealer and tell him what you plan to do. They may be willing to refund your money (minus a "re-stocking" fee) when you return the cap in it's original box.
I always try to be very personable when I go into the dealer, trying to set up a friendship. Ya, it could be called "kissing butt", however it does pay off.

If I can pull that off without it costing me too much money, I'll definitely post the paint mixture results here. Might as well help the community while I'm at it, right?
