Default B16 Swap-VSS Question

I searched, but couldn't really find a direct answer. My friend is swapping his 90 hf with a jdm b16. The speed sensor on his car is mechanical(?) and the one on the b16 is electric. I see that you can just switch the electric one with the one from the crx, but then would vtec work because the ecu isnt gettin the signal for the speed? Would you be able to wire it up anyway? They just called me and asked to look it up..so I cant go and look at the car.

ANY help appreciated!

Turns out a DA VSS works because it is both electrical and cable.

He could have, but then there would be no ECU activated VTEC

Yep..could I have just used a RPM activated switch if I had one? For the VTEC that is.

Have you had any luck popping the VSS out of the HF tranny before? It's a pain in the ***. I never got mine out.

what he said one post up.... theres still a signal wire from the cluster that goes to the ecu for speed signal on your stock cluster. so the d series vss works fine.

So, could I use the one from the DA, the part that goes into the tranny. It will hook up to the b16 ecu no problem? No cel and + vtec?

Thanks guys

So..The d-series vss will work to run the ecu, but then will the speedo work? Isn't that cable driven? Sorry if im confusing the heck out of ya's..but just trying to get this to work right.
