Default A2 vw ABA turbo project pics

Some of you might remember my post about the tubular manifold I was doing for a VW. Here is what the project looks like now. It runs great is is pretty quick on only 5 psi and a basic street tune. The tranny is being swapped out shortly for a 16v with LSD and clutch then head studs, HG, new paint, real management...

I also filled the left rear motor mount with urethane and built a poly bushed limiting strap. It's adjustable and attaches to brackets welded on the front mount bracket and subframe. The motor barely moves now but doesn't shake at idle any more than stock.

BTW - this is how you honduh guys should be doing your vac lines IMO. Those ugly, messy vac manifolds and unneeded clutter .

heh, nice xflow-T... the manifold looks sick. can you make stainless tubular mani's for the xflow, thats what i'd eventually would like to get, along with stainless exhaust and IC piping...

well, heres mine. a2 for life!
94 aba, shot peaned rods, forged crank, stock head
k26 turbo from a porsche 944
audi 5000 5cyl turbo manifold and wastegate (5th cyl runner cut off and welded shut)
audi 5000 intercooler, front mounted right under the bumper rebar
the best part 034EFI Standalone

here is about as well as i can do on fabrication, i made all the IC pipes and this stainless steel heat shield

thanks. it's 'low gloss engine paint' or some sort.

This isn't my car but yes I made a manifold for it. Got the head flange from Techtonics. Not sure if they sell them retail but its worth asking since they stock them. They are 1/2" mild steel and are CNC plasma cut I think. Not the nicest buy they do the job.

yea its my car and we plan to take the head off and lower the compression with a copper gasket and throw in some arp studs.

one of my friends doublestacked hg's on his aba-t, but i believe he used stock headbolts. its been holding up on 10 psi for a few years now.

the exhaust manifold looks real nice. i remember talking to a rep from one of the big vw turbo/tuning companies(i forgot who it was) at waterfest last year. i was asking about if they are making tubular/equal lenths cause most vw manifolds are log style like the atp and he said it was just wasnt very cost effective for them to do. i should see if my friends would be interested in one of these manifolds if u decide to make a few of them. im sure my friends g60/xflow head mk2 would benefit nicely from one of these

also, nice deal on moving the throttle body to the other side of the head. just curious, is there a reason why you still left the plenum over the valvecover instead of doing a short runner with the bottom half of the manifold? we are thinking about seeing if we can make one of those for my friends car

The plenum flip was FAR easier. one cut, some grinding and one weld. and at least we know its not a horrible design since its pretty much identical inside compared to stock. Im not really convinced that some aluminum box for a plenum would really help anything with no solid research behind it, not to mention the cost of velocity stacks.

If you friends want a tubular mani and are useing a short runner IM off the front I would be glad to build a few manifolds for them since clearance would be pretty easy to figure out without a car to mock it up on ( i do have an engine though)
