having a test pipe constructed.....suggestions
Header is on the way, want to have a test pipe constructed a a local muffler shop in town that makes all kinda custom stuff for trucks and other set ups. I figure they should be capable of making something like this and it cant be that expensive. Besides, its not a permenent piece, just for the track or whatever. Anyone do smething like this??
Yep, bought the pipe at Pep Boys for $4.00. Bought the flanges at Napa for $3.00 each and bought a large nut at the hardware store for about a dollar for my O2 sensor. Had a guy weld it all for about $10.00. Make all the cuts and mark the pipe and flanges so the weldor just has to weld.......makes it easy for the weldor.

I found some at a local shop. The flange has a 2.5 inch ID and a 4 3/4" bolt spacing. I cant believe people are selling these for $50+ on the net. Thats the one to connect to the header.

You need a 3 bolt flange for the b pipe side, a 2 bolt flange for the header side, an o2 sensor bung, and the pipe itself.
Not too difficult.

well, it probably would sound better, but since its a temporary use item and since its probably gonna cost less than 15 bucks total to make i really dont care what it sounds like if it gets the job done. besides, once the race is done the cat goes back on for the daily commute.
again guys, lets remember, this is a TEST pipe, for test situations and technically "off road" use only. I can understand if you guys run this all the time and also if you have the extra money for something nice that isnt going to be used all the time anyway.
ya, who sells these resonated test pipes and for how much?
~I got mine from them, great fit and finish... could have been a bit more ported at the input, but hey. And, it's Stainless Steel, $80 shipped. email them and be sure to be specific with what year/model car you have.
Or you can get resonator (cherry bomb) at most car parts or muffler shops, have a shop weld on flanges and you are all set for probably less that what I paid.
~now I know and you do too.
