Springs and Shocks: WHat brand and setups does every1 have?????
I'm going to be buying springs/coilovers sometime this week, along with some aftermarket shocks. I am most likely going to get Ground Control "coilovers", even though they're really springs. Anyone know where to get those for cheap from? Anyone know which Shocks are really good? PLEASE INPUT SOME INFO!
Thanks
Thanks
I have Neuspeed Race Springs. The same as Clean CL.
No wheel gap. Here are a couple old pics. So you can see how it looks.

my bro is deciding on whether he should drop his 99 Prelude base on Eibach Pro-Kits or H&R Sports w/ Koni Yellows. he heard that both are pretty similar in drop height (1.3"-Pro and 1.4" Sport) and ride quality. one thing he isnt sure of is the camber issue, is negative camber a real issue with Pro-kits or the Sports?

I have the Neuspeed/Koni Yellow combo too. Handles like a dream!! The Koni's have adjustable ride height settings which is usefull. I had them on the +0 setting and my new 215/40/17 tires rubbed in the back. I am going to raise the rears up to the +20mm (3/4") to see if that helps. I always thought the rear was a little lower than the front anyway

Screwdriver, how much did you pay for the Tein SS and where did you buy them from? Do you have know what the spring rate is for the SS? I'm in the process of buying these for the new autocross season. Thanks.
I have Eibach Pros with KYB adjustables. The KYB's work fine, and have four levels of adjustability (as opposed to the analog dial on the Koni Yellows). I don't remember the numbers, but the KYB"s saved me a bunch of money over the Koni's. Like anyone else on the board here would tell you, the aftermarket spring and shocks combo will do wonders for your handling.
I recently added the ST Rear Anti-Sway bar. I've been meaning to do this forever since TONS of people recommend doing the rear bar. I must say, I'm not disappointed at all. Not that I ever doubted everyone else, but it's no hype. Now the car drives like it's on rails.

Guess what ALL 5th gen (and I assume 4th too) run on SHOCKS not struts. Now that we have that straight. My setup is on hondaprelude.com (dated 12/10/01) and has Koni SHOCKS w/Neuspeed Sport springs. Around here this is an ideal compromise to using the even lower stance of the Race springs.
Ground Control coilovers are an excellent choice along with the Koni shocks. Other brands of shocks-can't say as all I have used is Koni, but most people seem to like either the KYB-AGX's or Tokico. The most expensive way to lower would be with something like the Tein coilovers-which is a threaded shock body type versus the sleeve used by Ground Control. It's your choice. Remember that ride quality may become an issue if the car is a daily driver. Also keep in mind that the lower you go the more careful you need to be about speed bumps and so forth.
Last-whatever way you go-get the car properly aligned. You may need Camber Kits as I did-depending on the drop.
Happy Luding

I'm plannin on gettin the Ground Controls, and Tokico Shocks. Any1 have any information on this setup? How low should I have my front? How low should I have the rear of my car? Please inputt
hey man- i got the tein ss from modacar at 950 + 40 bucks shipping. the spring rates according to tein usa is 440 something at the front and 220 something at the rear.
im more in to a daily driver so i dont want it too stiff.

5th gen Preludes have SHOCKS and not struts-read all of the literature including the manuals and parts books and the references in them are to SHOCKS. I said that I believed that 4th gen use shocks as the suspension is IN FACT a double wishbone type in both cases. Earlier generations I understand use struts. Take a real close look under your car before you reply and also be sure of what generation you are referring to.
For the original thread author-sorry about this rant. You will do fine with any of the adjustable shocks (Koni, KYB, Tokico). My preference for Koni goes back a very long time. I like the idea that they have real tech support and service. Check with Shoks.com and Ultra Performance for pricing. Ground Control will happily quote you for a complete package.

Shocks DO NOT support vehicle weight. Shocks only control spring/suspension movement.
Struts support vehicle weight by being a structural part of the suspension.
I have the Tanabe Sustec Pro SS on my 4th gen and love them.I had ground controls before and was mildly satisfied. My suggestion save up some money and a full coilover system like the tanabes or tein you will not be dissappointed.
I plan on getting KYB AGX shocks with H&R Sport springs, they lower 1.4'' which seems perfect for street and not needing a camber kit. Any other springs than lower no more than 1.5'' that anyone would recommend over these?
That's right-I'll refer you now to Section 18 of the Helm for the 5th gen and you show me where ANY reference to a strut is made. Infact, take a look at the factory parts book and you will find references to SHOCKS for the 5th gen. The technical explanation for function is not the issue. SHocks are not a direct part of the steering whereas Struts are-they rotate with the knuckle-shocks don't. In either case they work to 'dampen' the motion of the springs-which support the weight of the car.
I've worked on cars without friction shocks, oil charged, gas charged, race shocks - you name it. If a car has a double wishbone suspension-it has SHOCKS.
The end of this.
