anyone using the G-force head and neck restraint?
Has anyone used the g-force head and neck system. it is not as sophisticated as the HANS but still relies on the belts.

trying to come to grips with balancing cost vs. safety after driving for years with nothing but a foam neck brace.
planning to buy a high quality aluminum seat with side head supports.
tried searching for head and neck and g-force but only getting HANS equipment and debates of it vs. others.

No changes that I've seen. The Isaac currently does not meet GCR 20.4 (shoulder harnesses must be secured with a single release).

I use it (although I haven't USED it) but then I also sell it. If I can answer any questions, fire away.

I had to change the way I buckled into my harness. I now have helmet on before I try to strap in. I go by feel. I grab my shoulder straps one at time and "feel" each one over the bottom rod of the SRS-1 then snap into the cam-lock buckle. Not really hard to do, just different. It is definitely easier if you have someone to do it for you. If you are waiting in a staging line for a long period of time and want to take your helmet off, you have to unbuckle your harness. When getting out of the car, you just unbuckle your harness and the SRS-1 goes out with you.
It does restrict how far you can turn your head side-to-side but they all do. My experience is that the SRS-1 has more side-to-side movement. I like it pretty good, especially for the price.

we had a presentation on head and neck devices at the OH/IN NASA banquet this year. there was a write-up about it on the NASA website, but I can't seem to find it. the short of it though was that a GM race safety engineer was there to tell us about various safety devices currently in use, that should be making their way to our club racing cars. he had all sorts of video from the head and neck restraint device tests that they ran and explained how they worked. I'm not going to try to explain it, but he basically told us that if we are going to get something, get the hans. While the strap type devices do help, its not as much as the hans. After seeing the videos of it vs the strap type devices, I'd definately go with hans. If anyone has a link to that info on the nasa site, it would be a nice addition to this thread.
I'm no engineer, just trusting what the safety guy from GM said, and I think he's pretty credible as many of the top sanctioning bodies listen to him too.
