Default idle out of wack..

I just noticed today that my car was idling at 1300rpms felt weird but i thought it was a cold day and i just started driving so maybe it'll calm down. but after 20+ miles and reaching operating temp the idle was still out of wack, and i noticed if i give it just a little bit of gas (go to about 1500-1600rpms) the engine starts to choke. If i accelerate normally the car runs fine, if i'm idling the car feels fine just the rpm's are high, it only gets choppy if i hold the throttle at about 1500

what could be the issue? tps?

Don't know - it does the same thing- but it eventually warms up. Hey It is really important to let your car warm up in the morning. VERY VERY important. GOTTA GET THAT OIL HOT AND FLOWING RIGHT! Give it a chance to cool down - then just start it and let it warm up. In the mornings around 6am i start my car - and its always at 1500, but it slowly reduces to 800 over 10-15 minutes. Just let the car warm up and it should be fine.

thats why in the beginning iassumed it was because i had just started the car but the idle was still high after about 30 minutes of driving plus i had reached operating temperature. I'm gonna go see if its throwing me an cel's

There are a lot of reasons for poor idle... most likely its a vacuum leak. check your vac. lines. it could also be your Idle Air Control make... If none of this helps check and replace your intake gasket...unmetered air = poor idle and poor performance... also check the car for codes, your MIL might not be on but your car is still storing codes...see if you have a lean air condition this could be a sign of a leaky gasket or cracked vacuum lines

well i'm throwing code 14 (idle air) and after some research i see that i might have messed it up by doing the throttle body coolant bypass mod. i guess i'll see if i can reroute the lines and see if it solves the problem, does anyone have an suggestions? anyone been in this situation before?

I had a similar problem on my car, replaced IAC and it still did it. I did further inspection and research and it was the Fast Idle Thermo Valve that was bad. It's underneath the throttle body. There is a spring in there that opens and closes with the coolant heating up.Mine was stuck open,so when it was warm the car wanted to idle down but with that being open i had a idle fluctuating and throwing the idle code..Some times u can take the off and try to tighten,it's a cheap and easy part to fix so i just replaced it..
