Default d16z6 vtec question

i recently swaped in a d16z6 in fora non vtec d16a6. im not sure when the vtec is suppose to kick in but when im revin up to around 3500-4000 i dont feel it kick in. what could i do to see or feel when it kicks in. oh yeah i have a chiped ecu that revs up to 9k but reving that high would blow up my motor.

I believe VTEC kicks in a little higher than 4000. What ecu are you using?

stock p28 has vtec at either 4400 or 4800, but if you have a chip it might be raised to something like 5200 or 5500 even since your rev limit seems high.

Damn that first line confused me for a bit

i recently swaped in a d16z6 in fora non vtec d16a6.

wouldn't that mean you just swaped a vtec motor for a non vtec?

Anyways unless your running a vtec ecu (p28) or running a vtec switch, you won't have vtec. Also it wouldn't even kick in until 5800 stock for the p28 unless that chip is set lower and u wouldnt want to be anywhere below 5200rpm anyways.

on my d16z6 it always seems to engage at around 5100rpm. also it is a very suttle noise. Older engines don't make it as loud i've noticed for some odd reason. It won't be like when it engages on a b16, but similar. The only thing you'll really notice is a slighter deeper tone in the sound of the engine. its really noticable if you have a short-ram intake.

mine engages at 5200 according to zdyne and as stated it is very subtle. it's almost more of a continuance of power rather than a surge.

I have d16z6 engine with a pr3 ecu. I am having problem with timing. I adapted my Si disturbeator to the vtec engine. at wat angle those it goes. since the screws dont fit. vtec is kicking at around 4000. an red line 7200 when is stop. running is goes to 8000. why is dat. do single cams come with knock sensor.
