umm... i have a 1993 CX and went to a ref with a 91 SIR-1. i passed EVERYTHING except for tailpipe (too much NOx).
since then i've switched to a b18b1. you can pass it off as a 1994 del sol vtec. the ref can't tell the year of the motor. just convert it to US spec and run a USDM p30.

i dont know where you are from..but smog refs down here know what year the motor is..its right in front of you, stamped on the block...i do have a usdm p30 ecu..but, my tranny looks like its jdm, but its not---if you know what i mean..cant say more about it...so thats also another reason that i can ref...

Sorry man, but you can still get it to pass at the ref. If you hook up ALL the emissions equipment exactly like a del sol vtec and try to pass the motor off as such, it will work. I have witnessed it many times. Unless you seek out the biggest dick of a ref, the ref does not really care what year the motor is as long as the emissions equipment are up to par, meaning that the motor is set up LIKE a car newer than your own.
But, if you are still anti-ref just go to your local test-only and flash a couple of big bills at the smog tech (this is what you were expecting to hear right?)

actually, it's stamped on the head. the "date" stamp isn't always correct either. i have a 1995 B18B1 and the head is stamped 9|6. usually the head stamp is a year behind the production date of the motor.
so your tranny has no VIN on it? no prob. replacement trannys from the dealer don't hae VINs on them either. there really is no way to tell that year the block is from.
even though my b18b1 is a 1995 motor (i have the papers for it, i re-swapped from my sir-1), the ref still put "1994 Integra Engine" on my BAR sticker.
if your local ref is tripping, try other refs. there's atleast a dozen in the socal area.

i would have to agree.
the ref didnt check the year on mine either. i just told him OBD1 US spec, he put on the BAR as a 1994 Integra motor.

I'm on the same boat as this dude. I have a 92 motor in a 95 car. I basically was thinking there is no hope for bar. But know that some of you say that they don't check year, this gives me some hope.

like someone already said, have all the correct sensors and emssions like the del sol VTEC and run the US spec del sol ECU. they will most likely overlook the year if it basically looks like the del sol setup.
