sandblasting parts before paint.
hi. i am buying a used hood and fender for my teg. they need to be re-painted. there is a place around here that i use to sandblast things sometimes. i have never had re-paintable parts sandblasted. will it screw up the metal? is the fender metal too thin to be sandblasted? i dont wanna screw it up. i just dont know. anybody ever have this done? thansk.
sandblasting often warps parts, esp sheetmetal. you can have it media blasted with baking soda (yeah no kidding... I've seen paint off an empty pop can get blasted off with no damage) or try it with wallnut shells.
however, trust this... OEM paint scuffed down a lil bit is gonna prolly be the best surface to adhere to. unless you get an etching surface primer/sealer sprayed on immediately after blasting.
