Default Rotors

I looked in the Accord Guide thread and didn't see anything about brakes. My car is shaking really bad when slowing down as I stated in another thread and I'm wondering if it is the rotors as you guys and some other people I have talked to seem to think thats what it is. I was wondering what are the best rotors to go with? Does Brembo make any for a 5th Gen? Just wondering which rotors I should go with.

I just bought some nice rotors from Advanced Auto and some ceramic pads. I really like the way they stop. The pads dont give off much dust and they are supposed to last longer. I only paid about $100 for the pads and rotors. I would just go with this set up unless you want to fork out some change.

What are you going to be doing with the car? The reason I ask is because if your not tracking the car then you don't some elaborate brake set-up.

The last set-up I had on my 95 Accord was Brembo blanks all arround from Collective Motorsports with lifetime warranty carbon-metalic pads from AutoZone and Valvoline brake fluid. The pads didn't chew up the rotors, didn't dust much, wear was nice, never faded (never tracked). I liked the set-up very much. Would have probably held up pretty decent in Auto Xing but never got the chance to try them out.

I would say, go with a set of Brembo blanks and a mild pad and new brake fluid. If your daily driving the car then you don't want some aggresive pad thats going to chew up the rotors. The fluid is something a lot of people probably over look. If you haven't changed the fluid in a while you'll probably notice quite a difference in just changing that.

Your shaking in the brakes is probably from the rotors. They could be grooved badly or have deposits on it from the pads causing the face to be not flat. If the rotor has enough left on it you could have them resurfaced but for the price you can get rotors it's almost not worth it to resurface sometimes.

Also, if you do replace your pads and rotors, make sure you follow the proper procedure on braking them in. I believe there was an article on AccordinglyDone before that explained it very well.

Car is shaking not sure what it is from but i'm thinking it may be the brakes. I am using my car basically as a daily driver but I would like good brakes. How hard are the rotors to get off I have never changed them on this car but I have done some brake work on other vehicles and motorcycles so I'm not completely new to working with brakes. How are Raybestos brake pads?

the front brakes on the 90-97 Accords are a PITA. They are hub-over-rotor so that makes changing them more difficult. When I did mine I just took the knuckles off the front and took the assembly up to a machine shop and had them take everything apart and install the new parts (bearings, rotors, ect.). If you have access to a hydraulic press then you should be able to do it yourself but I didn't so I paid 25 per side to have the machine shop do it for me.

Some people just use a slide hammer to pull the hub from the bearing and then use a hammer and a piece of wood to hammer it back in. Seen some write-ups of people doing it that way. Personally I wouldn't do it that way.

Honda also recommends replacing the bearing once you've opened it (pulling the hub from the bearing removes the inner race opening the bearing). But people have gone without replacing it and say they've had no problems but I've never done that. Only replaced my rotors once while owning the Accord and I replaced the bearings at the same time.

I wouldn't worry about those yet unless you have the extra money. Your stock lines will do just fine. My brakes felt much better after just putting a good combo on there. I'm sure the SS brake lines would be nice but I don't think you really need them, atleast not yet anyway.
