Default Spoon Magnetic Drain Bolts

Just purchased a set of bolts, i'm not installed them yet but i'm abit concerned that the magent is nowhere near as strong as i expected??

It can pick up a stapple but nothing heaver..

I brought them from an offical spoon dealer in the uk with a good rep..

I guess what i'm asking is.. is this normal?

well...i suppose that the stronger the magnet the more it would collect, but as reputable a company as Sp00n is i dont think you should have any concerns!

Rob...i am not sure if the stock oem plug is magnetic or not.

Are you expecting peices of metal larger than a staple to be lurking around in your oil?

Nope, they isn't.

The tranny casing has a permanently fixed magnet in it, maybe that's what you're thinking of?

It can pick up stuff heavier than a staple that is for sure.

Remember, long is oil, short is tranny.

The one i got can't pick up nothing heaver that a staple, and i recon with any oil passing over it the stapple would come off again...

I hope it never has to pick up anything bigger, but if it does I'd like it to keep hold of it.!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe something is wrong with your spoon plugs because my spoon plugs are really magnetic. There is a video floating around of a spoon plug hanging from the oil pan and someone is flicking it and it just moves all around but wont fall off. Mine do the same thing.

LOL.. I'd be praying that I don't find a piston, pin and rod attached to my drain bolt in my oil pan

I never really tested my spoon drain plugs before, but every tranny/motor oil change I can wipe a few tiny bits of debris off it, so I'm assuming it works well enough

Even my beater Pontiac had a magnetic plug stock and my R didn't.... What gives...

I bought skunk2 bolts so bwah! I think automatic trannys came with a magnetic plug, because I just flushed an automatic and it was OEM but magnetic. I was jealous.

If they are magnetic too then they are fine.

Tranny magnet is removable, not permanently fixed. Earlier DC trans seem to have 2 square magnets in the rectangular holder, later seem to only have 1. either way, a magnetic drain bolt is far from necessary.
