No markings on ECU! How to identify from looking at the inside?
I recently bought this ecu for my swap and it arrived without any markings on the outside, no stickers, nothing. I was wondering if anyone can identify it by looking at the circuit board. It is supposed to be an OBD1-P72 but I think it is a P28. If you look at the rectangular black chip it reads D IS168 1P28. I dont know if that is just the chip that happens to have a P28 on it or what. Please help! I payed top dollar for this ECU so if it isnt a P72 than I possibly got scammed!

Will I be able to get BAR certified without the markings on the ECU. I dont think so as I understand the refs check that stuff.

I dont think u will be able to get BAR'd without a sticker on the ECU. When i went for inspection, they did check the ecu sticker. However, depending on where u go they might or might not check the ecu, so cross your fingers. All the dohc vtec obd-1 ecu's ive seen have that upper board piece (for knock sensor)? As u can see i dont know **** about ecus.

yes it is OBD1 and the smaller bourd is for the knock sensor.

OK thanks, i figured the ref wouldnt like that too much. I am in the process of returning this one and getting one with stickers but I need to know if this is in fact a P72 so that I can trust the seller to get me the right part. Anyone else know for sure what ECU this is?
Try searching on PGMFI Forum for pics. They have them posted over there. I can't tell from the top of my head but it doesn't look like no P28. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Sweet! Question answered! That info is good enough for me. So I do have a P72 ecu. Ok looks like I can trust the guy to send me the other one with the stickers on it. Thanks for all of the help guys!
