Hey everyone!
I have some really bad news and i can;t live without my car. Yestarday i went to les shwab to get a spare 17 on my car becuase one of my 18's cracked so i got them to put on a 17 for the time being. I get home and the car was driving fine al day. Now just tonight, i get in my car push on the cluch and I knew something was wrong from there. When i push on the cluch all the way it doesn't pop up back all the way. The clutch stays 3/4 down when i realse it. I can start the car, but i can't switch gears when the car is on. When the car is off, I can switch gears fine. If ANYONE knows anything about ths or if they can help me out at all, I would really appreiciate it. You guys are awesome and i always get help from honda tech. Instant Message me at guniit101 or email me at elan_selzer@hotmail.com.
BTW, I have a 1996 Honda prelude. Deffinetly Modified.
Thank You SOOO MUCH!!!!

Dunno, I just can't switch gears when the car is on, but i can when car is off. Clutch doesn't come up all the way
it sounds like your clutch wint out a friend of mines did the same thing he pushed it in and it didnt come back out.
Your clutch is probaly fine just check your brake fluid to your clutch. It's right next to where you brake fluid is. Fill it up and you should be good to go. If that doesn't work however you probaly have a bad master and/or slave cylinder check those leaks. One is behind where you clutch pedal is, check for brake fluid in your car, and the other is next to the tranny, hard to explain. You can either replace those not that expensive like 200 bucks for parts and it's not that hard to have installed. You can try bleeding your clutch too before you invest in a new master/slave cylinder and see if that can get you going for the time being.

check for leaks, and get the clutch bled and see if it's still acting up.
it could also be the clutch itself, but checking out the hydraulics first is easier than checking out the clutch itself.
good luck.

Just bleed the clutch or adjust it one of the 2 I have mine set so it engages really close to the floor and occasionally it wont come out all the way when starting and the car will lurch forward. Just try reaching down and poping it up or mess with the settings under there. But first of all bleed it, and like others said check for leaks.
Very likely a bad master cylinder. They are very prone to go on 4th gens as they get older, especially in the winter. You'll probably find fluid coming from where your clutch pedal goes through the firewall. It's not a very expensive repair.

K, I look at my brake fluid and i think its empty. If there is a crak in the master/cyclnder do you think if I fill the brake fluid up and I might be able to take it to a shop that is 15 min away?

search the whole site archives, it's a pretty simple process. takes 2 people, an 8mm flare nut wrench, some patience, and some shop towels.
i'm not sure if the leaking MC will hold pressure long enough to get to a shop. learn how to start shifting clutchless?

the same scenario happened to me on my way back from one of our vancouver meets when I had my 92 S/VTEC... I had to drive 1st 2nd then 5th gear all the way home to seattle.
I had the S tranny and swapped it out for the M2F4 Vtec tranny instead of messing with the tranny I had but basically my tranny went 5 feet under.. don't know if that's what happened but when it happened to me it wasn't a fluid or clutch problem.. hopefully your situation is less extreme.. but I'd definitely have it looked at if the fluids don't fix it. More than likely you can just have your tranny rebuilt for cheaper..

If it's empty try filling up the resoviour with some Dot 3 brake fluid. Then give it a few pumps to get the fluid flowing and see if it's going then.

Like people have said fill it up and pump it and then bleed it.
I had the same thing happen to me last year. Cluth wouldn't come back up. So I filled it up, and changed the master and slave but after taking both of them out they both seem to be fine. Also I didn't find any leaks in the system either. So I'm not sure what happened to it, but try those first.
Like in most car things, trouble shoot the cheaper stuff first just to be sure.
