Default Purchasing 99-00 Accord coupe

Im in the market for a 99-00 accord V6 and had a few questions.

How much should i be expecting to pay for private/dealership if it has around 50K miles in good condition? around KBB? Because I KBBed a car that a dealership was selling for 17,000 and it only came out to like 15,100. Will the dealership let it go for KBB or are they usually pretty firm on the price for used cars?

I know the tranny is known to be poor on these cars, but if i purchase from a dealer I could purchase an extended warranty couldnt I?

Generally, how much should i be expecting to pay for insurance if im 21?

I think thats it for now. I'm pretty sure i have more questions but just can't think of them right now. If anybody has info that would be appreciated. Thanks alot.

Yikes! Sounds to me like you are way off on price! You can find a 2000 V6 coupe in the $10k range if you know where to look...I would think $12k from a dealer might be reasonable. $15k should get you into an '02 or later on a decent deal.

As an example, I paid $8k for a 2000 EX with 64k miles (I4) 2 months ago. Add a $2k premium for a V6 and you're in the $10 - $12k range.

Private person or dealer what you're talking about is way out of the going price range. You should be able to find those cars around $10K.

$10 - $12k depending on year and condition.

I don't know where you live in Wa, but here are a few in the Seattle area (from Yahoo autos if the links don't work):

$10800:

$10850:

Primary benefit is that dealer may give some kind of warranty, and if you have a major problem, they may help you out to avoid damaging their reputation. One used car sale with a problem is not worth the effect that negative publicity could have on their new car sales. I don't think you can get a car as old as '00 or '99 certified by a dealer, but you may get a 90 day warranty or something.

Private party sales are a real crapshoot...CarFax is a must, but is no guarantee of a car's history. The best way is if they live in your area, or if they are referred by someone you know. Sometimes this will help them to have a conscience if they are trying to dump a lemon.

If you are going with an automatic trans, you must get an '00 or '01 so you have the extended warranty protection (100k miles, 7 years) on the trans. If you get the '99, and you are one of the many who has trans problems, you are looking at a repair bill in the $2k - $4k range.

If you somehow stumble on a '00 or '01 that is under 36k miles, you might be able to get a HondaCare warranty to cover you through 7 years/100k miles. I think (not sure) you can even get the extended warranty if you have higher mileage but you may have to pay a premium.

Here are some sites to monitor for your perfect car:
craigslist.com
yahoo autos
autotrader.com
cars.com
carsdirect.com
autoshopper.com

You should just go with the prelude

My insurance is 600 for 6 months liability. I'm pretty sure NYC ppl are paying a lot more. If you live in good areas it should be lower.

The TRADE IN price I got for my '02 was $15.3k. I doubt you could buy it from a dealer for that.

i went to go purchase my 6th gen accord at a dealer and they were asking the same thing..I asked them why and they said all their hondas here are certified so i think thats why they are expensive, well in my experience anyways. But yea, a 6th gen accord imo is not worth that much money and id rather save up a few more grand and get a used honda s2k for around that price range. I got my 98 coupe EX I4 with 40k miles around 9k from a private dealer and my friend is a mechanic so he checked it out with me. Also go with the I4 so you can have stick
