I've had to add 2 quarts in the last 7,000 miles, give or take, while running on Mobile 1 full synth. 00 GS-R, 43k miles. It really isn't a big deal.

One time by accident I change my M1 after 12k miles (miles, not KM) and freaked out, I sent the used oil to Blackstone lab for anaylsis to see if it was ok, it turns out just thicken a bit but everything is good, wear metal is extremely low and they suggest I keep it to 15k for next time. It was one quart short after all that however, so if your car don't burn i say go for it. If you want to save $ any oil is good for 3k miles now adays, even SuperTech from walmart.
for a good oil that have way extra detergent and durable (if your engine doesn't burn oil).

here's the deal
go to pepboys, buy their 1 dollar calender. There you will find a "buy 3 get 3 free" coupon for mobil 1.
You will walk out the store with 6 bottles of oil for around 16 bucks.
I use mobil1 15w-50 for my baby.

Ive got 120,000 miles on my d16z6, ive been using mobil 1 5w-30 supersyn sice i got the car at 60,000 miles with no problems, very satisfied
I use nothing but Mobil 5w30. My engine leaks a little bit, but it always has. That said, I know 2 other guys with B series motors who use Mobil, and both burn some oil. It's nothing major, they more or less don't have to add oil between changes, but it does burn some. I don't think they've ever tried any other oils, so I can't say if it's the oils fault or not. I doubt it though.
One thing you should also keep in mind is that Synthetic Blends can be a waste of time. For an oil to be considered a Semi Synthetic it only needs .01 of a synthetic. So you may be buying conventional oil with a drop of synthetic in it. No oil is actually that bad, but some of the ratios in some oils are pretty poor. I work for an oil change station and I will always tell people not to waste money on semi syns. Either go full or don't at all.

well i buy it from walmart.. mobil1 in the blue bottle... it's SUPPOSEDLY fully synthetic.. but it really isn't... not like royal purple or lucas and **** (don't quote me on that..)
if you didn't break your motor in using a non detergent oil and switch to synthetic right there after, i would not try to put synthetic oil in there even with 40k. you might be able to get away with it...syn likes to seep out of gaskets
hmm..is mobil 1 will really take my engine for a long time?? i mean like over 100000miles..going strong..
and is Castrol GTX is better than panzoil?? price is same tho..lol

I'd say go with Mobil 1 synthetic. My old Civic, a 1.5L that I wrung the Hell out of, never consumed a drop of the stuff right up to the 100,000 mile mark.
Leaking in high mileage engines is overblown. Mobil 1 is formulated to be more seal friendly and seals have gotten better since. Some swear it still happens ... but I say it isn't the threat many people make it out to be. It's your choice.
Mobil 1 is still a true synthetic ... Royal Purple is mostly synthetic but has a lot of mineral carrier oil in it. Amsoil, Red Line, NEO, Torco and Motul are all still genuine synthetics but the others are merely highly processed mineral oil (Group III) and are not worth $4+ per quart.
And switching back to mineral oils aftre using synthetic is definitely NOT a problem! I've done it and seen it done many times with ZERO (0) ill effects.
As for top dino/mineral oils, Chevron Supreme and Pennzoil are two with some of the highest quality Group II+ base oils and state-of-the-art additive packages featuring both molybdenum and boron. I've seen UOAs (Used Oil Analyses) featuring these oils which look every bit as good as Mobil 1 ... provided you don't go over 5,000 miles between changes.
Castrol is OK (nobody makes a bad oil theses days, but a lot of their high-performance image is merely marketing.
