Default Welding Quarter Panels TO EG

i cutted out my rusted areas and my instructor was telling me to overlap the new sheet over the old by about a inch in a half. is this correct? or the right way? i was thinking it'd be better to line up the old metal and new together then weld. welps give me some help here i only got two hours from now. thanks

Flare the edge of the panel so the overlap if flush on both pieces.

You need an OBD2 GSR ECU and harness.

You can cut it closer to exact if you don't want to use a lot of filler, but you have to be a much better welder to do it this way.
