I was driving home after school then my CRX started to act scary!!! I was first driving around 40mph then the exhaust started to make this popping sound then when I come to a complete stop at a red light the RPM is moving up and down around 1000RPM. The engine was also making a wear noise. It continued to sake then stop many time. I was in neutral so I press the gas to make sure if everything was OK but when the light turn green, my REX moves very slow and hear all this noise from my exhaust. I try pressing the gas in 1st to 2nd gear but it make a sound like if my exhaust was back firing. I got scare so I park at the side of the street then check the engine. The only problem I found here was that my air intake was off but I think that doesn’t do anything with the exhaust. I rev the gas all hard many time then start to drive then there wasn’t any problem. The only thing I could think of is that the cat or some where in my exhaust is clogged up? Any idea what’s wrong???

 

idle air control, try cleaning it and that should do the trick.

I think it's something as simple as a hole in your exhaust. (For the loud back firing sounds)

But does that slow down your speed? I mean the car didn't even go 20mph and it was shaking craze like it was knocking. My friends REX had a hole but his car was running strong before he killed his stock motor.

 

Anyone else with comments or ideas??
