I want to rev past 8000 safely what do I need?
First you need to make sure you are making power past that point. Do you have cams? Take a look at a stock dyno graph of pretty much any Honda. You can see the torque and power curves drop significantly before redline. If you just want to rev more (though I don't know why) you can get a reprogrammed ecu to take the revs up as much as you want. As far as parts go, you would want to upgrade your valvetrain, and make sure all your air is getting in and out of your motor effectively.
you need jun valve springs, titanium retainers (if you want 9000 rpms), a new chipped ecu (only chips i believe i are made for OBD 1). Maybe some type R intake valves would help but i'm not sure if thats necessary.
If you get any time of JUN cam higher than stage 2 youll need stiffer valve springs and TI retainers (jun, crower, spoon, toda) and of course chipped ecu and proper tuning.

I went 1 year at 8900 on a stock valve train as well. But, better safe than sorry right?!? Depends on your valve train too. My valve is a little stiffer than a GS-R's.
itrs can go to 9k all day long for 100k miles in my opinion. The ITR / GSR retainers are the same... so i have no doubt gsr retainers are good til 9k. The difference between itr / gsr valvetrain is minimal. If i was someone in the market for valvesprings... id get a set of portflow / itr combo springs, and keep gsr retainers. Thats what i did, wil rev to 9300 all day once the motors broken in.
no matter what you do any high reving, you will loose engine life. Things wear out things need to be replaced and things need to be rebuilt. do it right from the start and that way it wont give you problems later on and not costing you more than you wanted
