just swapped gsr.. smokes bad
hey guys.. i just swapped a 2000 jdm b18c gsr into my 93 civic hatch and took it to the shop to get checked out.
after they checked all of it out and fixed the stuff that needed to be fixed except one thing; that thing being the intake manifold gasket needing to be replaced cause of a vaccum leak.
after i paided the shopkeeper and proceeded to drive my new b18c powered hatch i put some 93 octane gas into it and hit vtec once to see what was up.
#1 problem is that its smoking bad when i get on it.. and even when i just started up alot of smoke comes from under the hood but shortly stops. Would this be from the vaccum leak?
#2 is that im new to b-series motors and its like a d16 when ur not in vtec.. so is this the way a gsr is suppose to feel like? I heard that the b16 feels like a d16 until you get in vtec so is this common?

You just swapped the engine and it smells like burning oil. Is it possible that the oil was just changed and some got on the exhaust, and now it's just burning off? Or possibly, there's an oil leak, the filter's not on tight, and again, it's dripping onto the exhaust, something to that effect, or even that oil cooler box/can thing on the back of the block could be leaking. Because, the exhaust pipe runs pretty much right under there. Just my 0.02 worth...
my suggestion is if you dont know what it is, dont drive the car, or as little as possible. its possible its just the oil burning off from the swap, but if it isnt, you dont want to screw anything up. dont wanna lose that engine u just payed a good amount of $$ for.

well i went to autozone today and picked up some smoke-b-gone ****.. so maybe that will solve it..
it pulls kinda slow when not in vtec but when i get in vtec thats when i can really feel the kick

When me and my bother did his ls/vtec swap we forgot to properly connect a vaccum line to the pcv valve. The symptom of not connecting this valve properly is excessive smoke coming out of the exhaust when vtec engages. Check your connections to your intake manifold and make sure you're connecting the right line to the pcv valve.

yea when i start it up it goes up to 2000 rpms, drops to 1000, then goes back up to 2000 rpms and idles there.. not even a second later you can smell burning oil and see smoke come from the engine bay but its only temperary
What does the oil read at? Have you been checking the level each time you drive? Is it losing a significant amount of oil? Or just a tad that you barely notice.
The same thing is happening to me right now. We just bought a built 99 ls. It eats oil and smokes comes out everywhere and out of the exhaust. is this normal for a new built engine?

If the rings aren't sealed correctly. Valve seals and many other things could be the issues. Have either of you compression checked the motors or even done a leakdown test?

About 2 months ago I changed my oil on my old swap and when I started it up, It would idle from 1000 to 2000 rpms. Found out that It was a vaccum hose that came off when I was trying to get the filter from the top. So, It could be that u got a hose mixed up or disconnected. And your smoke might be a different problem, cause when my engine did that, there was no smoke comin out from anywhere.
yesterday we found out that oil was leaking in the spark plugs and found out that we forgot the donut cover seal in the cover and when we put the 4 donuts in and checked the oil again. the oil was all gone.. and when we put more in there n started it up. smoke started to come out and out the exhaust. Is it just burning the oil that leaked alittle or is it sumthin worse? and where did the oil go in the first place?

If you forgot to put in the o-ring on the valve cover the oil leaked into the spark plug hole. When you pulled the plug the oil went into the cyliner hence why oil is burning/coming out of your exhaust.
