Meters And Data Logging...
I would like some opinions on data logging meters vs. non-data logging meters. What would you choose and why? Is there a real need for data logging meters on a dual purpose street/track car? Are non-data logging meters sufficient?

i dont really understand the question. data logging is used to record data so it can be viewed and compared against other data. i dont really know of any "meters" used for this other than something like a standalone ECU set up.
For example DEFI makes a DEFI-LINK Control Unit II that works in conjunction with either DEFI Link Meters or DEFI BF Meters to log and play back various data. The data can include RPM, Boost, Oil/Water Temp, Oil/Fuel Pressure, EGT, and Intake Manifold Pressure.
I think metering gauges would be mostly a waste of time for a dual purpose car.
Datalogging the ECU would be more useful. Datlaogging g-force and speeds would be kickass. But datalogging A/F? EGT? Oil Pressure? Rarely, if ever, useful. Just glance at your gauges on the straights, and maybe oil pressure during braking/turning to see if its starving.

Why would you need any additional "meters" other than those the factory supplied stock?
Accordingly, if you do decide to get additional meters/gauges, then some type of recording or at least peak and hold type system is useful.
For instance, I had Greddy warning meter gauges on my turbo ITR so that at least I could get some idea of the peak readings before shutting off the car after a run.

I have the LM-1 and like the datalogging. I need to get an RPM converter so that I can get a more accurate picture though. Without datalogging, it's kind of tough to watch the meter and drive at the same time
I use this for tuning BTW, and not to keep track of things during a race.

I thought gauges such as Oil temp and Oil Pressure would be useful. I could see where data logging (which would include peak/hold) would come in handy when it comes to boost readings and rpm readings otherwise would they really be useful when it comes to oil/fuel pressure, oil/water temp, etc.? Keep in mind i am using my caR for track/street purposes.
Defi D-Gauge are a good match for the OEM gauges.
Oil pressure and temp are always a good idea. But they're something to be said for "ignorance is bliss!"
