Default At the drag strip

Hey what do you guys launch at, on and off the strip. My best times where at 3200 to 3500rpm. Should i go more or less rpms. And do you guys have any tips on lowering drag times, without mods just techniques. When you shift should you let off the gas or keep it up there. Tips please. I ran a 10.387 in the 8th of a mile and a 16.16 in the 4qrt mile. I think my car is faster than that. I have 01 lude 5sd, short ram intake. I live in florida and the temp when i ran was around 65 at night. The car has 5500 miles on it, I've heared that the vtec gets more powerful with more miles on the car, is that true.

Whoa that's high. I take my foot off the gas while I'm shifting, because I didn't feel enough of an improvement when i was powershifting. Did you get alot of wheelspin when you were launching?

launch between 4000 and 5000. you will spin no matter what.. the trick (hard part) is controlling it to only a little spin and then having the tires grab. lots of practice with clutch/gas combo.

I got a 9.5 1/8th with a turbo (burned right through 1st and 2nd). Even technique couldn't help me. I have Nitto 450 *** tires. Pre turbo, my best launch was 5000 rpm and hold the throttle half way until you get traction then floor it. Practice, practice, practice.........

Tell us your trapspeed and we can have a better idea of what you can do as far as improving your 1/4 mi. performance.

i've found launching at arround 3800. my 60ft's are 2.1's on street tires. other than that, dont power shift, its not really beneficial, and is only gonna mess your ish up.

peace

The place where i went was so busy that they didn't give time slips. I had to have friends look for my times. I did two runs in the 1/4 mile. First was a 16.16 and second was a 16.23. Petty bad cause i saw stock lude doing mid to low 15's.

I was at a website and it was telling me what to do on the line. It said don't wait for the green, as soon as you see the last yellow light come on, go for it. I'm going to try next, to launch at like 2800.

Oh, and with a 16 second run under your belt, I'd take "I'd Smoke You" out of your sig.

Yeah, it's like street racing. As soon as you think the flagger is going to drop his arms gun it. So when you see the last yellow light just launch like it's the green one.

Make sure you keep it in till bout 7200 rmps before you shift. So it will drop into vtec in the next gear. Punch it when that third light goes yellow, hopefully before you cross the staging lines it will be green. Another thing I always do is put up the hood and push my car up the staging area. Sure it sounds laim but hey it keep the car cooler.

gettin a good reaction time doesnt mean poo poo unless your street racing. you could sit on the line for 5 seconds and then go. it doesnt take away from your time. if you ran a 16.1 normally then having a 5 second reaction time plus 16.1 equals 16.1. it only affects how close you finish to the other guy i ran a type r one time and we both got a 14.8 but yet he finished 2 or 3 car lengths ahead of me. how is this possible you say, he had a killer reaction time and i didnt care about my reaction time i was worried about launch and he finished first but guess what we both got a 14.8. practice lauching mainly reaction time isnt as important as everyone thinks. i had the best time at about 3000 to 3500 rpm launch. if you can leave the line without spinning for days or boggin down youll do fine, hope that helped

exactly. reaction times dont mean poo poo. next time you go sit for a second or two and then launch when your ready. then when you get comfy launch according to the light

When i ran my car and did a 16.1, i had be idling my car for about 15 to 20 min. The line at the drag strip was long as hell. Do you think i should keep the car off untill i run. I have my heat sheild off and i have a short ram intake. Dam,didn't think about heat under the hood. I think can do better.

16.1? Obviously your launch needs work. I usually go at 3000 RPM's, with stock tires. I judge the wheelspin and see if I should let go of the gas ever so slightly, so I dont compromise any forward motion. Oh yah, The lude is not a quarter mile car and Im sure you dont want to bust the transmission. I went to the track once, and ran a 15.5 at best, nothing to be proud of. Later!

well, no one here can tell you what RPM to launch at. some guys could pull it off with 4000 with little wheel spin while you could be burning rubber like crazy through the whole 1st and 2nd gear. its not just revving up to a cretain number and dropping the clutch. it also depends on how you control it after that. you can drop the clutch at 2500RPM and still get a mad wheelspeen... you just have to practice. gotta get that balance between the clutch and gas.
on my 95 VTEC i used to launch from 3000 up to 3500. it also depends on your tires, tire pressure, suspension, etc etc...
my best on a stock 4th gen VTEC was a 15.098 1/4mile.

im glad people agree wth me. if you get that "ive gotta win" attitude. and just floor it. your time will suck. its about strategy not power. the heat under hood doesnt help but it takes a couple of hours to totally cool down, so its not like you can let it totally cool, i see some rustang drivers at the track puttin a bag of ice on there intake manifold. so maybe thats an idea for you. if your worried about underhood heat get a AEM cold air intake. definitely worth the money

Make sure you keep it in till bout 7200 rmps before you shift. So it will drop into vtec in the next gear. .
actually you'll want to be higher than 7200 RPM, If you shift at 8000 RPM you'll be in VTEC but you'll be about 1000 RPM higher than when you shift at 7200. when you shift at 8000 you land at about 6000 RPM, when you shift at 7200 you're at about 5000-5400 RPM's. you have more power available at 6000 in the next gear then you do at 5000-5400 in the next gear.

or like Ludeaction said "Launch at 4000, shift at 8000" BUT dont do this often.
