F*cked up my stereo, I think, HELP!!!
I figured I'd post here because more people look in the eg/ek section. Ok I've just received my new JVC KD-AR600 stereo for my 98 civic. I've wired every wire correctly and installed/tested to see if it worked. At this time I did not use electrical tape to cover the wires yet. Once it was hooked up I pressed power and it came on, I wanted to put a cd in it and went to my other car to get a cd while the harness's were still naked touching each other. When I got back, the unit was dead? I tried turning it on but would not work, I deassembled the harness and installed back the OEM stereo and to my surprise it was dead too??? Now I'm wondering did the wires short circuit each other? OR blew a fuse. I replaced the radio fuse (7.5) with a new one and still the radio is dead??? Some one please help me.
check all your fuses in your fuse panel. Also, there should be a fuse on your headunit. If all is good and still doesn't work, bust your your 12 volt tester and see if you're getting any power from your hot wires.

Thats what I'm afraid of.

Check the fuse in the fuse panel under the hood. I think it's a 7.5a, this supplies the 12v+ for your radio. I've seen it on so many customer's cars. That is your problem.

yeah the hazards, blinkers and every other electricals work, except clock and radio. And I did replace the 7.5 fuse under the dash and still nothing works. Maybe it's time to take it to the professionals.

I hope it's the yellow wire which is the battery wire. I think the ground wire, ACC wire and battery wire all were touching each other when installed the stereo. I'm such a dumb A$$.

Hasnt anyone heard of crimp caps... ugh... Be happy you didnt catch your car on fire while you were gone(not likely but hey). If you checked your fuses did you see the wires actually short? there will be black marks on the wires where they touched or touched the deck ect. You may have fried the deck but chances are probably slim. I would take out the volt meter or atleast a test light and check and see if your getting your switched power (RED) and your constant power(yellow). check your ground too.

There is a forum SPECIFICALLY for questions like this. Not trying to be a **** but there is a audio/stereo/video forum so that we dont get threads like this in the EG+ fourm.

I told you what your problem was. You've got no 12 volt constant at the deck. The fuse is blown under the hood. Replace it. *sigh* I guess this is why I have a job.
