Default Radar Detector test in Car&Driver

I was flipping through the new Car&Driver (Ford GT40 concept on front) and read about their latest test of all the top dollar radar/lidar detectors. Valentine 1 came out on top again with flying colors. The Escort Passport 8500 didn't fare very well even though they claim it's the #1 detector.

All I can say is that I'm very very impressed with the performance of the Valentine 1 - even given it's size. Apparently the size comments have not gone unheeded as the new Valentine 1's now come in a slimmer case design.

Valentine 1

Yes I bought the magazine especially for the radar detector test. The Valentine 1 is very tempting. At 400 $ US (640 $ cnd) it's the price for two speeding tickets. I was glad to see it cannot be detected by VG-2 detector detector. In Canada you don't want to get arrested with one of those.

I'm pretty sure radar detectors are legal in all but a few of the provinces (?)

I'm sure it is illegal in Quebec and I'm fairly sure it is illegal in all the rest of Canada as well.

WRONG WRONG WRONG. Radar detectors are legal in BC and Alberta. You can also get away with using them in Saskatchewan. Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic provinces you're SOL.

radartest.com

A very interesting site. They rate the V1 a little differently though.

I would not be so confident about getting away with it in Quebec. I live here I should know. When you cross the border coming in from the US there is a big sign saying that radar detectors are illegal. My father was pulled over a few years back because the cop detected his detector, he denied having one (it was hidden somewhere in the car) so they took him to the station, stripped the car, found the detector, and give him an hefty find.
BTW what do you mean by SOL? I would not want to be insulted and not know about it.

You didn't read my statement. There is a "period" after Saskatchewan. Learn to read

SOL = out of luck (merde alors)

Make your "period" bigger man Sorry, my mistake, give me two of these . It is my only hesitation about buying any of these detectors, you have to stuck them on your windshield and they are visible to a vigilant cop. Oui oui merde alors...

I read that same review in Road & Track.. I now know what detector I'm gonna get.. V1

Is it true that they are coming out with a Valentine 2? I heard this, but are they just rumors?
