Must I buy TB to fix TPS???
My GF has a Civic 2000 SE sedan that she brought in for occasional bogging of the engine/check engine light warning. The mechanic hooked it up to a computer and said that the TPS was the issue and that she had to order a whole TB/TPS assembly. Honda parts says that they do not have a listing for the TPS seperately.
The real problem is is that the TB/TPS part is over $1000.
The TPS part (don't know if it is for this Honda model) is sold as a standalone on ebay. PPL in these forums are replacing the TPS seperately, even swaping TPSs between manufacturers!
Does a whole TB have to be purchased in order to replace the TPS on this model?
any help on this or extra info someone might think we may need to make a proper decision would really be helpful.
many thanks,
Mike

The whole TB doesn't need to be purchased unless you are getting it from the dealer and at which case they will gang-rape you. What I can tell you is that all Honda TPS between the B-Series and D-Series are compatible, so if you can't find the TPS by itself just pick up a TB for cheap on Ebay or after your trial period is over, here
you are from Toronto. I am from Whitby. Go to Standards Auto Wreckers on Sewells road off of Taunton and you should be able to find a tps there. I got an integra Tb with tps for $55 from there. I might have an extra somewhere if you need one let me know.
i picked up a tps on ebay for 25 bucks. you'll need to set it. i believe all tps' are compatable.
i hate how mechanics try to get you to buy these parts for insane prices. buy this and then go back to him and told him you got it for 30 bucks and see what he says.

Mini write up by me - changing the TPS:
Need: 1 new TPS. 2 bolts (can't remember what size =\)
Optional: 1 new throttle body gasket (if removing the throttle body.)
1. Slot the screws holding the old TPS on with a dremel or hacksaw (this step is much easier if the throttle body is removed.)
2. Remove the old TPS with a flat head screwdriver.
3. Install the new TPS and put in new bolts.
4. Attach positive end of voltmeter to the red wire, attach the negetive to the green wire. Adjust the TPS until it is 0.45v at closed throttle. Torque down bolts and enjoy your working TPS.

there is play in it like a distributor kind of... by slightly moving it back and forth. yes it has to be connected
