bad rotors? help me diagnose the problem!!
I was driving to school yesterday morning and as soon as i reached 60 mph my steering wheel started to shake and vibrate like mad. 2 days ago i had new brake pads put on.. not sure how or if that could affect it. A friend and I propped the car up in his garage and drove the car to 60 and it started to vibrate noticeably. Could this be rotors even if I am not on the brake when the wheel/ car vibrates? any ideas?
id say get your wheels balenced. also have you driven in the cold or snow. snow or ice can throw off an otherwise balenced tire.
My car has the same problem. At any speed over 55 mph, my car shakes fairly bad. On long trips, it's very annoying, and can be kind of dangerous, with the steering wheel vibrating. I'm not sure exactly what's causing mine, as I haven't checked the front rotors, but the alignment seems good, and the balancing i'm sure is fine, but I know my tires have worn unevenly as the previous owner did not rotate. Honda dealership told me this could be a good cause of the vibration because the tires on my lude were worn incorrectly. Rotation is nesecarry for even tire wear, and i didn't bother balancing them because i'm just going to wait and buy 4 brand new tires...the sad thing is there's not much i can do about it now, except try not to drive too much over 55
hope this helps a little

you cant really tell if your alignment is off a little and that could be your whole problem. also not haveing the alignment perfect causes uneven tire wear which then creates unbalenced tires. so everything is connected.

If you just had brake pads put on, and suddenly you've got a problem....
Check to make sure a wheel weight didn't fall off during servicing.
Jack the car up so that the whole front end is off the groung, put the car in neutral, and rotate the wheels. Look for any signs of binding.
It's possible that the guys hit a pot hole while driving your car for a test drive and waffeled a rim.
If the car only does this while stopping, then it could be your wheel bearings or your rotors.

Are you saying that you hand the car on a lift and drove it to 60mph? If the car is off the ground and it's vibrating, then it's on in your wheels.

I see that problem a lot in the shop. Most likely its wheel balance... From there make sure to check your alignment, tie rods, steering rack, and ball joints for play. Tule of thumb on a honda if there is any play there it too much. Good luck.
alright thanks guys.. yea my friend and I did the brake pads... anyways we checked wheel weights etc... he works for honda so im taking it to his dealership on sat to have it looked at
if you've already checked the alignment, wheel balancing, tie-rods, ball-joints, and wheel bearings, there is 3 more things that could possibly affect steering wheel vibration....i'll list them in order of probability of occurance....
1)Since you just had your brakes done, you're caliper's or your carrier slide-pins could be locking up on one side, causing your brakes to grab, in turn causing a vibration or pull...
2)do you have any new tires on the front? If you had only one new one and one worn on one side, you could be experiencing a radial vibration or pull...
3)Sometimes, malfunctioning rack and pinions have excess play in them due to leakage or just plain f-ing up.... this is somewhat rare, but its possible and has happened before...

yea check any fitting/bolt in that deals with rotation. however, i bet you will find that its something with the the tire or rim, and technically, you should balance your tires at least 2 times a year.
