Default Are you running rich???....Read this!!!!

hey guys I have a 89 Civic DX with the d15b2 and dpfi
my cars been running rich realy rich the hydrocarbons were up to 350!!! the air/fuel ratio was at 13.1 as well
I hooked my car up to the diagnostics scope today at work....and did a few tests and i couldnt find anyhting wrong with it....but wait i unpluged the hose off of the PCV Valve........and the numbers dropped to 100!....and the a/f was back up to 14.7 where it should be....
so if ur running rich here's what ya do......go to ur local canadian tire.....or whatever parts depot........buy 2 valve cover filters....they are about 2 inches round and they will fit on your valve cover pcv system at rear ov valve cover.....put one there and then put one on your intake pipe where the other end of that pipe is supposed to go....and it may stop your problem.....

i jsut thaught id share!

Ummm.....seems like a bandaid to the real problem of a jacked up PCV system. Its there for a reason.

Best put a catch can there.

Why not put in a new PCV valve? They are supposed to be changed every so often.

the excess vapor needs to escape back into the intake system.

as suggested use a catch can if you want to filter it.

brand new ones are like $2.00

search for "PCV" with archive ticked and youll see that people ask about removing them about once a month, theres very detailed reasons why you must have it in those threads there.

someone should make an easy, picture filled, guide to changing out the PCV?

I was looking at it today and it looks horribly hard to take off and put back on

It's easy, you just pull it out, pop new one back in. Lil cramped space, but it's not bad.

The PCV system sucks ***, and should be removed completely.
A catch can system should be installed, but only run through the lower vacuum regions of the system to isolate the fumes. The PCV breather on the valve cover should breathe either atmosphere, or filtered air through the catch can.
Do some research, and you'll also find the PCV system performing different tasks at high/low RPM's as well as on N/A and boosted engines.

I changed my PCV Valve....didnt make a difference...........it was a bad set up......completely......when you have hydrocarbons due to you PCV system it usually mean the rings are fried........it means this because there is too much blow by.......now.....if you want to spend the money on new rings or a different motor go for it....but guess what mines for sale!
