Mods: i/h/e & acthdss clutch kit, fidanza 6.5lb flywheel.

Recently on idle i hear a clunking/loose sound, it doesn't happen at every stop,but it seems to happen when my idle drops a little bit.

I thought i had it narrowwed down to my axles because i noticed that there is a very minor tear in the CV boot.

I also wiggled the axles and they don't seem to be as tight as they should be, they shouldn't hardly move at all, correct?

If i put my foot on the break and try to stall the car out i also hear this sound louder.

I'm pretty sure it's my axles, but not 100% sure.. What do you all think?

Now that the weather is changed (being cold) About two months ago i ran 87 gas.. at around 4000 rpms in third gear mashing it.. I hear valve chatter. I switched to 93 octane and haven't had a problem with that since,but now it seams my valves or something is making a high pitched sound.. kinda like a squeeling.. it happens in when i'm just barely on the throttle and then easing on the throttle... Do my valves need to be adjusted?

Can't hurt to adjust those valves, even though I don't think that's your problem. I know mine need to be adjusted.

As far as the clunking noise, I'm not sure either. Both very strange issues. I'm having tranny/axle issues as well, so I'm really not in a position to give out advice on those.

 

if your axles are broken, theyd eventually just spin and try to move the car. do you have cltuch fluid in the resovior? have you bled the cltuch slave cylinder ? id try the basics first

Thanks man, well what do you think the sound other than the axles could be?

 

It could be the clutch. I had a D15B8 that made all sorts of clunking noises. I upgraded the flywheel and clutch, and dropped in an Si tranny and it went away. Being that I swapped everything at once I don't know what exactly it was, but I hope this helps.

Nah man, I'd hope not.. Just put a brand new fidanza flywheel and act hdss clutch kit in about 2500-3000 miles ago.

What do you think about the squeeling sound?

Valves?

 

I wish I could really even speculate. Have you listened to the belts?

Nope, it didn't even cross my mind.

The possibilities could be the alt belt,ps belt, and there isn't an AC belt because i don't have AC.

Will check though..

Belts are the only real thing I can think of with the squealing.

Alright, I finally got around to checking out the low clicking sound and it turns out it's the mount from the tranny to the frame ( i think).. All i know is that it looks like it has a bushing.. and it's tight it's just loose enough to be making that sound.

Do i need to replace the whole mount or what?

I don't know what mount you're talking about. If it's the rear mount I'm about 95% sure the whole things got to be replaced.

If your looking into the engine bay.. Right infront of the radiator.. it's going from the tranny to the engine bay.

For either the top or side transmission mount, you have to replace the whole mount (the part of the mount that has the rubber insert).

I don't have the part number otherwise i could look it up and price it.

 

clunking is probably the mount, as that was the fix to my problem too.

I just put some ES mount inserts into it and it was fine.

It looks to be # 14 and then the little bushing or whatever.. So should i replace the whole assembly or just get some ES inserts?

 

I like my ES mounts. It did say that you should install them into new mounts to begin with, but mine have been fine in my tired old torque mounts.
