Question about trailer length
Not honda related, but I figured I would ask anyways
I'm looking to purchase a trailer for towing the WRX. The car is 14.4 feet long. Would a 16ft trailer work ok, or is an 18ft trailer necessary? The thing I'm worried about is that with the 16ft trailer, the back wheels of the car will be on the dovetail part rather then the horizontal part. Will that be an issue?

Thanks
-Tom
who really wants the 16fter to be ok, since its so much cheaper then a new trailer.....

Trailer lengths are usually for the deck (usable portion). The A-frame at the front adds a few feet. So, a 16' is usually adequate for most cars. An 18' gives you room to mount a tire-rack or storage container up front.
Tires on the dovetrail are not an issue, as long as the car is strapped down properly.

Points well taken. I overbought for the CRX thinking we would use the trailer for other cars. The 16' is generally enough. Keep in mind that an 18' will allow you to balance the tongue weight better. (Want a 20' aluminum, drop me an e-mail) ANother thing is that the trailer weight is a factor for towing even if empty.
we only stock 16' car trailers;there's really no use for 18' at all.most of the people who buy from us are towing vehicles bigger than a WRX-muscle cars, classic cars,trucks,etc...plenty of room for those vehicles, anddefinitely plenty of room for your car.
if you decide to not get the trailer pictured, shoot me a PM,and i'll get you some prices.i don't know how much is being asked for the trailer you're considering, but ours(full diamond plate floor, just as you have pictured)are going for around $1700,just to give you a reference.

I only bought my 18 footer because I intended to put a 3 1/3 foot box on the front. The boxes also eliminate the opportunity for a car nose to reach over the front of the deck too. Before this one, I always used a 16 footer or a 14 footer.
I got a good deal on this trailer, $900.
Thanks for the info everyone, I'm looking forward to towing with my own trailer this season!
I was planning on putting a small toolbox on the A frame part of the trailer. As long as its not too heavy as to contribute too much to tongue weight, would that be a problem? I wanted something to keep a few folding chairs, extra straps, etc.

Tom-
As long as it is a small box you should be fine. I have a pickup bed tool box that I wanted to mount on the tongue of my trailer but the overhang was too big and it would hit the tailgate if I reversed in a tight turn. Just check your clearances and you should be good.

The other thing to keep in mind is how your straps will work to tie the car to the trailer. I would go a little long so the straps can stay fairly horizontal and there is room for the ratchet, etc.
