Civic Burning oil!
I bought a 91 ef with 180k miles on it a couple months ago and its burning oil. About a quart every couple hundred miles, depending on how i drive it. would putting 10w-30 instead of 5w help since its heavier?
I'd run the 10W-30 in our older car no matter what. Notice any oil on the rear bumper? It could be front or rear main seal. If you can't see where it is coming from I'd guess it is a seal. Also check oil pan gasket.
mine burns oil as well, and there isn't much you can do without rebuilding the engine. you can put some "no smoke" treatment in there but it will only last so long. are you sure its burning it? does it smoke out the tailpipe?
there is this one stuff called smoke bee gone at autozone and checker works really good when my sohc was burning alot of oil i would use it and wouldn't burn as much, it really thick like honey

Seafoam! Run some (not all) through the intake as per the instructions then turn the car off and remove the spark plugs and pour about an ounce in each cylinder, allow the car to cool off then start it up and watch the SMOKE!!! After you drive it for awhile it will calm down and may possibly solve some of your oil consumption too. Buy aniother bottle and put 3/4 in your fuel tank and the rest in your crankcase. These 2 steps should free up your rings and help until you can rebuild it.
Oh, and make sure after the car cools off in the first step that you turn the engine over a few times (using the electric starter, not your hand) with the spark plugs out before you try and start it otherwise you will hydrolock the engine and bend a rod.
