Default Paint Chipping after 12k miles.

I got my 2004 RSX base model about 2 months ago and have now roughly 12k miles on the odometer. when I got it there wasn't a single blemish on the paint despite being used, I was really happy. I just noticed after washing my car today that the paint on the hood is horribly chipped. There are 8 or more *very* noticable nicks in the paint already. I've heard of some cars having recalls on the paint, but I was curious if anyone else has seen this before on this car, or with Honda/Acura. I have put roughly 3k miles on the car in 2 months, but it's mostly just driving around town - not too much on the highway for lengths of time running into bugs, rocks and other debris.

I'd hate to have to get my car repainted already.

Anyone?

Thanks in advance.

If your thinking of making a claim with the 'stealership' on your warranty, make sure you get everything documented, even if they turn you away. Take it to several other places to get some kind of estimate or documentation. Look up any information on line and see if this is a problem that has been noted before with your model.

This could be caused by a number of things. Being behind a vehicle in traffic that was flicking debris off of the road way. Could be that the sheet metal was not properly cleaned off at the factory which could eventually cause the paint to crack and flake or bubble.

Good luck getting a dealer to take care of you if there is no recall. On the other hand this would seem a great reason to do a little painting or maybe get a CF hood and some kind of aftermarket front end....just trying to be optimistic.

i have nicks in the hood of my '03 si, but typical rock chip type of stuff.

it is possible your car was in an accident and the hood wasn't prepared properly, non-oem part, etc.

Thanks for everyone's advice about finding any other people's issues/quotes online.

Normal wear and tear after 12k miles? I think not. My '95 civic has less chips in the paint for crap's sake!

stop tail gating? Didn't happen in any of my other cars after 2 months of owning.

Anyone else been successful in getting their car re-painted under warranty?

a small flake in the lower part of my bumper flaked and the dealership said they would fix just that part....ended up they resprayed even the other chips and flakes that were due to wear and tear.

A dealership and honda considers rock chip wear and tear. You won't find any dealer that will warranty that for you. Here is why, because the dealer has to file the claim to honda and honda has the final say wether it will be warrantied or not. If the dealer decides to warranty your rock chips it comes out of thier pocket, and do you think the dealership is going to pay out of pocket for an uncontrollable common occurance such as wear and tear?

The conditions on roads are different everyday such as debris that is stirred up by traffic, just because one car does not have a lot of paint chips does not mean another one of similar or newer status is going to have the same number or fewer chips. You drive your car alot expect it to be subjected more to wear and tear.

Also don't make a warranty claim because it would be piontless, save the warranty work for someone who actaully needs the warranty to cover a vehicle condition which merits it. It is faulty claims like this that make car companies put out lengthy legal disclaimers making it difficult to use the warranty when it is actually needed.

i think people are trying to help you and you're throwing it back in their faces. if the chips are excessive, perhaps you need to file a claim with your insurance.

maybe, just maybe, own up to the possibility that rock chips are beyond your control and that they do happen. if your other cars didn't chip like that perhaps they would have had you been driving them on the days these blemishes occurred.

The paintjob on the RSX is just crappy. I've had more chips on my Type S in three years than I've had on all the other cars I've owned combined.

I agree, its been the same way for me. I have multiple chips all over my front bumper and even have some very minor flaking near where the taillights match w/ the rear bumper but luckily I have a bottle of touch up paint so it hasnt bothered me much.

Throwing it back at someone for claiming it's my shitty tailgaitings skills. I was simply looking for "was there any kind of recall, or no?" If not, I can deal with it, if there is a well known issue, then I'd make a claim. Bottom line.

Thank you to everyone who posted something useful. I'll just hit it with some touch up paint I guess.
